2014: General Discussion

It was dated and tired - and operated a fairly outdated style of 'school canteen' ordering.

This will bring a more relaxed and refreshed environment for eating - much more reminiscent of Wetherspoons for example.

I often wonder if people ever find any positives in anything :p

It doesn't look too bad...you have to question though what they've been doing for the past 6 months? It looks to have made the most progress in the last week before it's meant to reopen!

To be fair yes it does look ok! I should stop thinking of things at EP and making judgements based on that! :p

The thing that amazes me the most is that it opens tomorrow, they've had since the start of November last year, yet it has not been completed to allow for some 'testing' as it were.

:)

I am ambivalent about it, not much has changed but it's meant to be a two year project. But it looks generally a better food venue, like the bar-esque feel.

I agree with that!

Shocked that they've had all closed season and should have had it open and ready a few weeks ago ideally to prepare themselves for the sudden influx of visitors this week.

But is it the best it could be?

Themeing - nothing.
Appeal - very little, why would you sit in here for a. evening meal before you leave or b. a meal during the day?

It stinks of actually being a pretty crap addition / retheme. It might have been dire to start with, but they're hardly 'adding value' to the experience - which is what these eateries on the park should be about.

I don't care if they're selling steak and grill type items, if at the end of the day I could pay half the price somewhere nicer. Even places like Cafe Rouge are more themed than this appears!!!

Having a look at Towers Nerd Live, I'm actually quite pleased with the ''retheme''. It looks fresh and, aside from the floor, it now has a modern aspect to it. I certainly like the colour scheme that they've used too! ;)

Yeah it looks better from the pictures that have appeared on TN Live and on Facebook. Still, that outdated floor is annoying me. :p The rest looks good though and the menu seems pretty decent!

The pictures appearing look nice. It seems like it has quite nice decor and a nice logo and menu.

The main thing holding it back is the floor but hopefully that will change for next year!

Service has been a bit ropey for some, but for my table, it was fine. Food's relatively decent as well. I'd be happy to eat here again, and I hope things improve as well. Décor seems nice, although the floor needs some work.

I just feel like it should be their 'flagship' restaurant on park, and it kind of doesn't really succeed in that element very well.

Like I said, I am ambivalent, the food options are better, the decor not so much...

The service was pants though

A few comments from my visit on Thurs and Fri:

- Staff were generally quite good and friendly, although a little thing that made me laugh (see below)
- Upselling still doing my head in. Numerous cases of when I was in a shop buying something and they'd proceed with the 'Would you like to buy something not even remotely similar to what you are buying for £xx'. No.
- Barely any downtime. Only on Th13teen for about 10mins
- Park just seemed to be looking a bit better than last year
- Too many closed outlets and F&B
- Hotel service was good, friendly people in Dragons Bar and Secret Garden, although my linguine from the latter was just a bit sloppy
- Demolish The Flume and start from scratch

And something that made me laugh a bit. I was with my girlfriend and we'd gone to Nemesis for ERT. They were running 2 trains and each train was only filling about 3 rows. We just decided to go up the Single Rider queue as we couldn't be bothered walking around. The girl working, who had a face on her already, made a point of ensuring we didn't sit together. She split us up, and I noticed as I was putting my bag down she went over a told her colleague to make sure we didn't sit together. I asked that colleague if we could anyway and he said "No because you're single riders."

I get that we've gone up the single rider queue and all that, but the train was virtually empty and I just think, who wins from that? We weren't really fussed, more just amused at the lengths the two staff went to to enforce the rules.

Yeah they do that a lot on Nemesis, cos it happens that if they allow one group of people to ride together on single riders then everyone cottons on and everyone uses single riders. It effectively makes everyone use that as a main queue. So can see why they do it really (though they could just have it shut if the queues not long).

Not going to start a new topic for this, but looking at photos, Towers bar and grill really does look naff. There is so much they can do to make it better, but its almost as if they have slapped some paint on the walls and put in a new bar. They still haven't done anything with the old water wheel either. Such a missed opportunity to have something moving and look pretty cool.

I tried the Bar and Grill today, and my god is it crap.

The food is below par, it's café quality. I had the Towers St Special Burger, and it was just meh. I can't describe it but it was just that, meh.

As for the interior, the bar is nice enough, a bit bare but nice. But the actual restaurant area is completely naff, it still feels as cold and dated as it was before, but now it's a little bit more purple.

I'm avoiding taking too much of a position on the appearance as it's a 2 year project but the food is mediocre and the service crap. When we went some peoples meals had to be returned to the kitchen FIVE times before it came out right, staff where nice enough but seemed completely un prepared.

Why they didn't bring half the wood cutters staff to TSBG to help and train some of the new guys in Woodcutters I don't know.... Well actually based on F&B management this season I can guess why.

On the plus side if they improve the food quality, the choice is quite good.

It was shocking it should be simple as it's the same as woodcutters
