2016: The Smiler Reopening

I think Rita's restraints are far worse. Smiler's are perfectly ok for me.
I agree, I find Intamin's OTSR's far worse than Gerstlaurer's. It's only really B&M that do them any better in my opinion and their vest like ones aren't great.
Ritas restraints make the ride painful (you hit your head between them throughout the ride). The smilers restraints ARE painful themselves. Get that same sigh of relief when the smiler restraints unlock as I do when the restraint bar on a disko lowers (am I the only person who hates them with a passion?)

I've never found the Gerstlauer OTSRs particularly comfortable, they can really dig into your thighs and their design as the bottom isn't always great for males! One of the reasons that I rate Karacho above The Smiler is down to the restraints and comfort.

Sometime it is almost as bad a submission

I feel like I have a slight opposite opinion on restraints here! Being on the slim side I've never had an issue with The Smiler's restrains. They seem to have just the right shape to be comfortable on me without crushing. Saying that, I'm 99% sure if Flamingo Land had a eurofighter or similar ride then I'd be hating the things. Again, I quite like the B&M vest restrains too. Couldn't tell you if i prefer them over the regular OTSR such as those on nemesis, but it has been a few years since riding air/galactica as my last visit was before the reopening. Rita's are pretty bad though, not sure if that's the bottom bar or the actual OTS bit. I'm quietly hoping they'll one day fit the soft restraints that seem to be popping up in various parks.
Nothing is a bad as a volare restrain though, no arguments.

I'm 6'1, fairly slim yet never had any problem with The Smiler restraint wise. I'm beginning to feel like the odd one out![]()
Same as me then, and I'm not a fan!

I've got a belly, and I think that stops it from touching my knees.

I meant thighs
Actually, I'm (too) skinny, and I still find it uncomfortable on my thighs. So you need to be skinny to ride comfortably. I might write a letter of complaint saying they're fat shaming![]()
I'm a six foot four bat fastard and I haven't had any issues with Smiler restraints.
Hate the ones on Rita though, they hurt on the brakes.
Compared to Infusion and the Wild Mouse at Blackpoo they feel like velvet though.
Hey Diogo...full sentences all in a line, party!
Might even learn paragraphs next, possibly.

I am also a slim 6 foot 1 with some what wider shoulder build but I do have lots of problems with OTSR on nearly all of them (including B and M inverts) that I have experience due to all my height being in the length of my body, if I had to say what the worse ones were I would probably say smilers, colossus but worse of all is rameses revenge as it gets you in the nuts as well and it seemed the ride ops really seem to slam it into you!
I nearly had to do the walk of shame on ripraw as they couldn't get the restraint to click shut, I had to slump down into a very cramped position for them to finally shut. This is probably a big factor why I really enjoy lap bar restraints, millennium flyers and mack mega coaster restraints/ seats are by far my favourites (which I know I am not alone in thinking). It's very interesting hearing that others struggle with the restraints, I fear if I fill out more (especially in the shoulder area) some rides will become unridable.
