Yeah but like, it's June. Summer. Did no one think it might be warm?Sure it was booked to be done way before the heatwave was forecast and would cost money to cancel it.

Really hurt your feet as well - however, its probably being done due to elf n safety, you know, little kid gets foot caught in netting for 2 seconds, parents write to Daily Mail about horror net where child was suspended upside down for 2 hours while being covered in water......

It seems a bizarre time to replace this, I guess it must be seen as urgent or health and safety say it must happen, as they could just wait till the winter when they do all their maintenance.

My friend was at Towers today and a member of staff told her that due to galactica being an epic fail that is gonna be removed soon and replaced by a new coaster (I can't guarantee how true any of this is)
He also apparently said that the new entrance had been approved and that the monorail was also gonna be removed
So if this turns out to be true
A. What would you like to see replace galactica
B. If the entrance is moved do you think Towers street will be redesigned into another area??
C. If the above area happens how would you like it to be
(Whether any of this is true or not I don't know)

While Galactica has been a disappointment, many people still enjoy 'Air' and I can't see them ripping it down any time soon.

Interesting. I feel the new entrance thing is just to save the costs of the monorail which is probably the most riden thing at alton towers . How would it work without tower street what is going to greet you at the entrance? And finally AIR is a great coaster my kids favourite to be exact surely oblivion should go first as it hardly gets any queues and it lasts err 30 seconds

I do not think any of that is on the cards at the moment. A new entrance has certainly been considered in the past and I am sure Towers would love a solution that involves getting rid of the monorail however I cannot see it happening for at least 10 years.

If the monorail is on its last legs then maybe the plan for the new entrance will be brought forward to allow the monorail to be scrapped as I can't see them making everyone walk from the car park
Imo they need something major to create a buzz again that it doesn't currently have (and it doesn't look like sw8 will do that imo)

I think you could conceivably do without the monorail, I can't remember the last time I used it. Must be years - it's really not all that far and can often be quicker on a moderately busy day depending where you are parked.
If you had a proper path with some low capacity ground transport for those who struggle to walk the distance but do not have a blue badge, I think that would be workable. A good few parks around the world have a walk not too much further and people manage.
I think the monorail is only deemed necessary because it's long term use has made it appear so. It's only there because it's there - I don't think it would ever have been built in recent times.

Yeah it was built for a smaller capacity than the park now deals with, so the queues don't justify its use anymore to me. However barely anything would've been built in recent times. The whole theme park would never have been done if in recent times and it'd be a camping resort with a bowling alley, so that's not so much a comment on the value of the monorail but on the way developers behave today.I don't think it would ever have been built in recent times.
The monorail adds a great deal of value to the average guest, it takes a stellar tour through the park & sets up the day well (would be better if you could see clearer out the windows and the park was in better condition). It was built for a bit of Disneyesque showiness and impression as well as transportation, and that's what it's good at.
Dated design, but it's still doing its main job well. Needs a proper station overhaul.
