Does anyone have a reason why Alton Towers are always the last (by a long way) out of the UK Merlin parks to release their opening times. If it was anything to do with Merlin surely Thorpe & Chessington wouldn't have released their 2018 opening times ages ago?

It's so frustrating that you can't book train tickets in the sales as you don't know what the opening times will be :mad:

I can't imagine they will be radically different from previous seasons. Worst comes to worst, you can sit in Stoke station with a Frappucino for an hour or so.
 
It’s probably because they are embarrassed at how shocking the opening times are.

I would expect 4pm off peak midweek, 5pm weekends and 6pm during summer holidays, it’s the sad state of affairs we have become accustomed to.

I know it's a hotly debated topic, but with the SW8 formal reveal on Monday, are we expecting them to make it more clear which part of the park Wicker Man is going to be a part of? I don't care either way at this point, but it doesn't exactly fit with the nautical/pirate themes surrounding it! Theming is such an important part of Alton Towers, and is far and away what makes it better than the likes of Thorpe Park (IMO). It would seem odd to be sloppy with theme consistency at this point.

Not trying to re-open this debate, so hoping Alton Towers will make it clear on Monday.
 
Gah! In my defence, I hadn't seen that until right now. Do you not think it's just the *tiniest* bit sloppy to slap a completely unrelated ride in Mutiny Bay? Like, I know the ride had to go in The Flume's space but my face is hurting from the lack of continuity in the area. Considering how they re-themed all existing rides in Dark Forest when Th13teen went in.

Oh I agree, this ride does not seemingly fit in with any existing themed area at Towers. I'm hoping that Mutiny Bay may still get a minor re-theme to something along the lines of Alton Harbor but really not expecting it.

:)
 
Am I the only one on here who doesn't care about themed areas...to me Towers is about (some) good coasters in beautiful surroundings, themeing is down at the bottom of the list for me.
 
It's a bit of a running trend with Merlin, creating rides with themes that completely clash the area surrounding theme. It would be nice to see a new ride created to fit in with an area theme, or an area given a proper retheme for a new ride, but neither of these has really been done with any of the Secret Weapons and I doubt this will change.

Saying that, I don't think this ride will be that damaging to the area around it. It could/just about fit in with Mutiny Bay if some minor changes were made to the area (like Rob says, if the area was renamed to Alton Harbor or similar).

Like mentioned a few times throughout this thread also, it's can't be any worse than bright yellow rubber ducks in the middle of a pirate area.

I've been refreshing all day to see if it'll work and finally got it to load (painfully slowly) on my phone about half an hour ago. Now it won't load again :p

Works fine on everyone else's phone, just not mine. Every other website is fine on my phone as well.

Strange.

Anyway, there are potentially more interesting things to be rambling on about.....
