Manta has put me right off flying coasters for that very reason. I actually started to have a panic attack because how I felt enclosed in and started shouting at the attendants. I have never ever had a feeling like that before.

Yeah that's why I'm not a fan of Galactica. It gets so uncomfortable waiting on the brake run for any length of time.
 
In fairness to the Galactica team, on my Oktoberfest visit it was running 3 craft and the one i was on had to slow down on the lift hill because another hadn't hit the brakes yet, and there was no waiting on the brake run at all - Manta however the twice I have done it - the ops were dreadful and there was too much hanging about on the brakes.

I've been on Galactica when haven't had to wait on the brake run. If only that happened every time lol. :p
 
If Galactica's on 3 trains you should never wait on the brakes. They should be sending a train when the previous one has just gone through the lie-to-fly (though it's now hard to see if they're achieving this after they boxed the station in). If it's running one station you'll probably sit on the brakes for a while due to the long loading times.

The worst B&M flyer for brake run waiting is probably Flying Dinosaur at Universal Japan. It usually runs 3 trains but due to the bag storage arrangement they always send 2 trains to one station and 1 to the other, which results in a lot of literal hanging around. Meanwhile on Tatsu at SFMM they seemingly never run more than 2 trains but even if they use both stations the trains still waits on the brake run due to some extremely inefficient procedural faff.
 
It seems that the smiler, th13teen and wicker man were the only rides to close earlier tonight at 8:30, with the rest closing as normal at 9

The rides with the longest queues i guess so they the park doesn't fall victim to a curfew breach

The queues weren't particularly long for any of those 3 but I guess they can't risk keeping the most popular rides open til 9

I thought Galactica could dispatch as soon as the craft in front dropped off the lift.
 
Maybe so, but I wouldn't say that was a realistic target when running with guests
 
Haven't seen it mentioned here for a while but does anyone know if single rider is still being used for certain rides? I'm visiting tomorrow on my lonesome and was just curious.
 
Quite why they don't use it on the smiler as there's a lot of couples atm so a single rider could sit on the end. It would save me having to queue an hour for it

Technically yes, as very early in 2002 (i.e. when Air had not been with us long) they changed it so the lift motor could run at variable speeds. Prior to that, the official dispatch interval proximity switch that had to be passed before the next train could move is under the bridge where you flip back into the flying position from lying on your back.

To be honest, having the next train all locked and ready to go when the one in front is exiting the lift does not happen often - especially when guests start messing round with removing shoes & the baggage hold. That is before you throw RAP guests into the mix, as if on 3 trains you will normally return into the station you did not board from - so if the guest is using a wheelchair, that has to be moved to the other platform, then wait to cross back over the other side to exit.

SeaWorld put a bit more thought into the dual stations by installing a lift that takes you up into the central station platform so getting on & alighting from the opposite side is a much easier & faster. Sure, they had to do this as the US disability discrimination laws are very strict compared to ours. Parks cannot ask for a doctors letter / medical proof that you cannot stand in a queueline. They have to install lift access to elevated stations & where possible, they tend to keep queuelines stair-free, so wheelchair based guests can queue with the rest of their party.

Although the app and queue board said TH13TEEN was closed before 9pm, we actually got the last train of the day and got in just before 9pm.

I guess Wicker Man and Smiler will always close early, however the others will depend how busy it is.
