I mean i get it and felt it was warranted because people just do not listen, and will social distance for 20 seconds then bunch back up because they think its going to get them on the ride quicker. I also dont get why people cant keep a mask on. Acting like a naughty school child not doing the one thing they have been asked to do.

I also heard some group as i was queuing up to go in kicking off at a member of staff saying they had to sell them tickets because they weren't aware they had to pre-book and that's Alton towers fault and not theirs
 
A witnessed full on verbal aggression from one of the staff at the merge point in the Smiler queue.

Group in front of us had been maintaining a safe distance through the whole 60 minute queue, and then got a little too close to the group in front of them in the building.

The staff member shouted "you're too close, MOVE BACK NOW!". He was genuinely angry.

It's good to see they take it seriously but thought that was a tad harsh.

I bet if he had his way, he'd have had a cattle prod in his hand as well! I know I would've wanted one if I was him! Failing that, a taser would've been just as effective.

Usually I'd agree but they were socially distancing right up until the indoor section where they probably misjudged the distance due to the lack of light.

So they were following the two metre rule outdoors, where the risks were low because, you know...outside!
They then broke the rules when they came indoors, where the risks are much higher, due to a lack of ventilation, and airborne particle risks are much, much higher indoors than out.
Sounds like he was doing his job properly, and deserves a staff award for keeping people safe.

I heard this happening on more than one visit, the abuse they were getting was awful!
 
So it’s pretty certain stoke on Trent will go to tier 3 from next week.

Will Alton towers still open, given the hotel, restaurant and any indoor attractions (probably including the grotto) would have to remain shut? I’m imagining it would be financially unviable. I’m also wondering the same for Legoland and chessington should they hit tier 3 too.

Drayton manor has already cancelled their Christmas event. I’m assuming they had some sort of advance tip off that they would be in a tier 3 area so just decided to cancel altogether?

Do you have a source for this? Alton Towers isn’t covered under the Stoke council area, it’s Staffordshire Moorlands so this may not be relevant depending on how the tiers will work.

Staffordshire Moorlands is one of the areas that could go either way, it had quite a high 7 day average peak but it is falling. It also depends on how wide the government decide to determine the regions, if Staffordshire as a whole is lumped together then the risk of tier 3 goes up dramatically.
 
I'd say based on the latest available data, along with what's coming out that more areas will be in higher tiers, that Alton Towers is likely to fall in to tier 3. And I could be wrong here but I think you'll see entire counties in the same tier, so all of Staffordshire in tier 3.

This is based on what is expected in Leicester/Leicestershire.

I guess Alton Towers can keep up with opening their gardens if they want but if tier 3 resitrctions were in place the hotels would remain closed.
 
Staffordshire Moorlands sits at 341 per 100,000 over a 7 day basis. That’s considerably higher than the national average of 228.2. So the chance of not being tier 3 is pretty much zero I would imagine.

Even though london is below national average, i imagine it is high risk of tier 3. The tier system literally failed last time so the whole point is to make the tiers stricter and more areas in higher tiers so the numbers don’t rise again.

So, it will be interesting what Towers next move is after Thursday.

Maybe if they do have to cancel the hotel Christmas event then they will just open the gardens up as all the decorations and lights are in now.
I assume they wouldn't even be able to do a socially distanced Santa visit.
 
The whole of South Yorkshire was lumped together in the last tiered lockdown so I wouldn't be surprised if the whole of Staffordshire got the same restrictions. Another thing that would affect Towers if they are put in Tier 3 is their restaurants would have to close unless they could do takeaway service.

One thing I'm not sure if it's clear is would the entire park count as the premises (aka would they be able to operate)

For gardens opening there is limited take out food anyway so I expect that would continue as it is in Mutiny Bay.

It mainly depends if hotels are allowed to operate I expect, if the hotel can open and therefore serve food to hotel guests, then the event can largely go ahead. If the hotel is closed then the park is back to gardens only and takeout food basically.
 
There would be an irony if under "lockdown" Towers can open the gardens, but under Tier 3 it gets closed.

But that's just Government things.
