I'm not sure if that was official or if that was rumoured that they said it. If they did say it then it would've been to take the subject of it's closure away from safety issues I guess. Plus they'd never say "The Smiler is closed due to a sensor that need replacing" or similar because to some people (and tabloid "news"papers) that suggests safety issues.

EDIT: Just seen this on Twitter, so does look promising

Even when The Smiler was closed throughout the whole of October I believe that it was still being sent around with the water dummies on it, it was regularly tested during that period. Personally I’m not really expecting it or CRR to be open for opening day, but it would be a nice bonus if they were though.

Looks like today has been the best out of the John Lewis, kids pass and services days for ride availability, if they can get smiler and hex sorted then things would be looking much better.
 
There's probably some H&S thing going on. We know Merlin are quivering wrecks now with any little H&S incident and their 'reactive' approach means that something small can happen in one corner of the globe that has an immediate effect on how something is operated here, whether necessary or not.

Case in point? Staff on RMT having to be behind locked gates now for dispatch, in spite of a huge platform.

I haven't seen photos yet, but apparently the fence has been painted up now. 🙂

I've often wondered why they fence off the right-hand side (as you walk towards X Sector) with such high fences. It's only woodland as far as I know so why not put in shorter fences so you can see into the area. It would make it feel less claustrophobic too when it's busy. They could even put lights on the ground in amongst the trees for Scarefest like they did at Fountain Square.

The access road isn't far through the woodland (can be seen clearly in the Spinball queue) so I assume they are just trying to hide backstage. Although it should be hidden from the Spinball queue as well!

If you wanted to hide overnight at towers surely the safest bet would be the depths of the gardens. Most of it is cut off in the valley so doubt they check if anyone's there

I've thought about this before lol wonder if many people have ever tried it, I know Alton have a big security team though

Surely even if there's loads of cctv they won't be able to spot you at night if you tried getting in
