2023: The Curse at Alton Manor

The first Scarefest? When even was that? Certainly before my time on these pages. Early 'thousands, somewhere? Maybe even late '90s?
(I assume you meant last year, the first 'fest of Curse. Just taking the oppertunity to derail the thread. ;) )
I assume this was Dual:Live at one of the first scarefests (after spooktacular stopped being a thing)?

2008 or 2009 when it was Duel it became Duel live. I've experienced every version of this ride

Rode this today…

From the bits I can remember…

- stained glass window effect a little late
- the floating Emily screen/peppers ghost at the end of the grand hallway appears broken/too light
- trommels still broken
- demon “grow” projection area too light
- UV hands area too light
- dolls head trap door stuck open (towards end)
- giant Emily hand projector screen wasn’t working
- giant Emily head lit up far too bright and too early

Given the great promise about things will work, it’s still at 80% and not consistent
Did you ride it in the evening by any chance? Just wondering if your eyes had already adjusted to the light making everything brighter

Later than I thought. I'm sure there was some kind of spooky event before that? Earlier versions might not have been "Scarefest(tm)" branded though.

The year with Duel and Hex Live was great, I can’t see it ever happening again though.

I was disappointed that there were no roaming actors (none in FV either) but I understand they’ve been reallocated to the mazes which is totally understandable

Duel Live got cancelled mostly down to guests moaning about the guns not being in use (you know, because lasers and actors eyes would be a bad mix). Was also very limited what actors could do since a live electric current going through the floor so had to stay in very specific zones.

Hex was problematic since actors grabbed people's feet on the stairs in the Octogan. Least that's what I heard at the time.

Worrying how quickly people forget, isn't it?
It's not that I forgot how unreliable it was, the post was worded in a way that made it sound like the author knew some information that meant the ride would not be ready in time for some reason, whether that be maintenance or a major technical issue that would cause it to not be ready by then.

I didn't state that I forgot about its reliability at all.

I really hope they get all the effects working properly and hopefully the panel is replaced for the grand hallway peppers ghost effect as the light bleed looked terrible by the end of the season.

That and fixing the trommel is a must.

Being greedy it would be nice to see a new scene or effect but given the fact they’ve got rid of MMM it will be intriguing to see what effect this has

They haven’t got rid of MMM; it’s Studios North, the on-site theming manufacture studio at Alton Towers, that has gone.

MMM are still going strong, so I can’t see that any planned new scenes for Curse would have been affected by the closure of Studios North.

Apologies badly worded, I meant studios north. And according to LinkedIn quite a few of the AV team have gone to.
