2023: The Curse at Alton Manor

Back on this again today.

Screaming heads corridor was nice and bright today so you could see the original set pieces.

Biggest change I’ve noticed is the door knocker is no more but well documented here already I see.

It’s still missing a mind blowing moment for me. The dolls on the arms which pop out are just so comically bad.

I’ve had rides in the double digits now and still continue to notice easter eggs. One I liked in particular was one of the portraits just prior to the trommel being of a woman walking towards a giant skull - the same one that used to be the entrance to the trommel.

After having my first ride I’m going to do a very brief overview of my thoughts of the ride. It definitely felt like a low-mid level budget attraction, some very nice effects here and there but lacking in some sections (such as the dark sections/hide and seek and the doll jump scares). The mirror effect worked very well for me and it was rather impressive and the trommel tunnel was fantastic, however it did feel slightly ruined by the fact we were so close to the car in front. Lighting is mostly very good, however there are sections where I could see backstage which is a shame. The outdoor queue section is a massive improvement on the previous iteration and I also really love the soundtrack. The rolling pre show is nice but it’s a shame it’s hardly seen due to such a fast movie queue or empty building. Overall I think it’s a great improvement on Duel, and they have done a good job for the rumoured budget they had! There are areas they could tweak and change to improve and hopefully that happens in time.

This might seem random but if you were at ATR on the 2nd of June you might understand this RIP post may your wood leave us in pieces.

And now for context!! So basically I had just finished in FB and I was heading to the curse but sadly it was closed and some maintenance team said that they were waiting for the "Specialised maintenance" then after I walked away they started hitting a post with a hammer and wood was going everywhere and a actor in that area was funny about it saying "We can't let anyone in till that post is fixed it's THE post" it was a good time.

The start of the hide n seek scene could do with the trigger being delayed by an extra second, the audio starts before you're in the scene properly. The lightning in the garden has been fixed though today which is nice.

The main broken effect it the moving walls which aren't moving at all today at the start of the ride.

One thing which has annoyed me on my past few rides is the screaming heads section, there is always a backstage light on above you which looks like some kind of staff/maintenance corridor.

The effect is hard enough to see as it is, but with that lit up behind you can often just miss the effect completely.

Finally got to ride Curse yesterday!
It was shut all day and then luckily, it opened around 3 o clock!
Firstly, I'm not sure whether it's because I've seen spoilers before I rode or what, but I don't think it's as good as people have said. Saying that, what they've done with the time and budget is decent. Pre show and queue line have vastly improved from Duel.
A lot of outdoor lighting was getting into the building through fans in the ceiling, which may of made it lighter throughout the ride, hence I thought it wasn't as good. Just needed to be darker. Light in some areas.
Heard screaming heads weren't working? Well they are working again. Maybe why it was shut for most of the day. Moving walls still broken though.
As most have said, hide and seek section still has the Duel walls/props, and outdoor light didn't help to hide it.
Overall, a good ride but preferred Duel.

The outdoor light has been in issue in every iteration of the ride (HH/ Duel). If the methane levels are high the vents open and light leaks in.

Not that I recall no

I think the fireplace (entering the trommel?) is a very weak scene. Very difficult to work out what it actually is supposed to be and looks cheap - jagged edges with very visible LED lights behind.

The easter eggs in the lead up to it are a welcome addition however.

Really enjoyed this yesterday. Ok so it’s not perfect but it’s so much better than duel. The team did a great job and the huge Emily head at the end is fantastic. There were a few good jump scares in there too. I saw some people were terrified on it as well so it’s doing it’s job. Great upgrade. 😀

It’s meant to have smoke screen effect so you don’t see the LEDs or the trommel behind but it’s never actually worked.
