2024: General Discussion

Good to see the building will be sticking around in the long term as it's a big space and perfect for something indoors to bulk out the winter offering. Was half expecting it to survive the next couple of years and then be under threat by whatever they have planned for the area around Horizon.

The Dungeons are closing this month and reopening for Scarefest. If they are only just applying for planning permission now there is no way this will be passed in time to coincide with the summer closure.

It’s far more likely to be a closed season project.
oh has it been confirmed it will be a scarefest attraction, I have lost track with the amount of things happening this year.

Yes, it was announced by Bianca before the start of the season that they were closing to receive a Scarefest overlay.

No indication as yet if the Scarefest attraction will still be under the Dungeons branding, or what might happen with the attraction beyond that though.

In an interview with OTT it was confirmed to be returning as a dungeon attraction for 2025

That’s not quite what was said. Bianca said ‘it’s just going to close for Scarefest’.

I understand one interpretation of that could be that the Dungeons will open again in 2025, but that isn’t the only possibility based on that rather vague small sentence.

It could all hinge on what changes they have planned that they seemingly need 3 months to complete and what the visitor response is those changes during the event.

Another interview from Bianca, and I think this one is the best so far, very chilled and not corporate at all. No new information about future projects (as expected) but a few little titbits of nerdy info:

They sold 13 WEEKS worth of merch in the Nemesis shop on opening day
The first Scarefest 2024 meeting was held 1 week after Scarefest 2023 ended and has been in planning ever since
The Dungeons will return after Scarefest
Daz Games was their no 1 scare attraction in 2023
To open CBeebies land for Pirate takeover took a whole year of planning
She said that Nemesis Reborn was titled Project Relentless (although didn't make a point of saying this)
Alton After Dark was planned after she listened to the demand from people, rode all the rides in the dark last year and 'got' the hype for dark riding

Again if you listen to the actual sentence that she said it’s not quite as cut and dry. I am not trying to be argumentative or pedantic (honest!), I am just saying there has been a leap made from the actual sentence to it being confirmation of a return.

It could well be that leap is correct, but right now we don’t know that. I felt it was carefully worded and she moved the conversation on very quickly. Bear in mind there are teams of people who’s jobs would be impacted by closures and marketing considerations for replacements etc that all need to be factored in to confirming anything like that.

As I say, time will tell and it certainly could return next year. I am just not sure this snippet actually means that on its own.

The fact they’d even consider closing it for several months for Scarefest, let alone actually doing it means they know it’s not a particularly good asset for them in its current state.

But without having any longer term plans ready to go, it makes sense for it to revert back to the dungeons afterwards. I’d hope we’ll see a permanent change to it in the coming years, it could be so much better. I also hope it doesn’t just permanently stay part dungeon, part SF attraction as I think the building has the potential to offer something world class all year round.

That's the thing though, they could well have plans for it. Who knows.
true, although they could reopen it for 2025 as for example they may have plans to retheme it along with project horizon, I would have thought it would be a case of relatively small changes here and there to the scenery interms of construction, but if it is closed for 3 months I do wonder mow much they may change.

also I am curious about the state of the ride system and how well it will cope, as shows are every 30 mins, I don't know about the group sizes but I can't imagine it is running close to its capacity, but when it comes to scarefest, most of the mases have a long queue, and i would assume the same would be for this, but i wonder if any issues will crop up when they try to increase the capacity back up.

What a waste of space that’s an absolute joke. Are they blind and thick as pigs it literally gets barely any attention

Would be far better as a seasonal attraction.

Santas grotto ride in winter.

Family Halloween ride for scarefest.

Trough covered and space used for other uses rest of the year

Alton Towers seem to be offering a theme park + Waterpark combi ticket for dates between now and 19th July for £35pp.

It doesn’t seem to be widely advertised at the moment and to access it you need to enter WPCombi into the promo box in the booking portal.

I wonder if this is a trial to see how popular it would be? The fact the Waterpark closes between 4pm and 6pm on the dates the offer is available seems a little counter productive. But perhaps if they see some level of demand/get good feedback it could be tied into longer hours over the summer?

Damn you know the waterpark must be struggling when they do this

Much like the spa, the waterpark has been woefully under advertised for decades. Golf may go the same way. Which is a real shame as it inhibits investment. Problem is golf needs to be covered (as they’ve learnt at Windsor) and the water park is about the way and clumsily named.

Last summer the water park opened late in to the evening, so a combo ticket could actually work if you wanted to spend most of the day on park and then use the waterpark after park close.

Yeah we did a half day in the park last year (10-2 i think) then went to the water park for a few hours after lunch, was great! Unfortunately with current ops you'd be lucky to get on 2 rides in that time.
