I thought that as soon as I saw the title lol. Was interesting to see what they got up to though. One of the last 32 riders. He forgot the plural.

I'm not sure if I've said this, but on the talk of Nemesis I was having with my Mum about it being retrack, she'll never forget her first and only ride on it back in 1997.
At the time she had no clue what she was getting herself into in which she went on with my aunt (my uncle and aunt's family were also down with us on that trip with my Dad and sister) and she thought she'd enjoy it...what followed was what she described as the most terrifying experience she ever did and was exiting that station faster before you can say Nemesis 2.0 and flat out refused to go on that sort of ride again due to the G-force. Another funny story about a year later when our two families went to Spain and once again my aunt roped my Mum to ride Dragon Khan...got to the boarding stage and my Mum, after waiting for about an hour I think, simply went 'nope' and walked over to the exit!
Don't get me wrong, she's fine on most rides other than Spinball which she hated but won't go on anything upside down and any ride that's a B&M is a big no to her. But there is one embarrassing confession about Nemesis I've never admitted before and that as a kid from seeing it at first and many footage of it on TV, I was more scared at the blood lake below the loop as I had nightmares more about that than the ride itself as I thought scary sharks, squids and piranhas lived down there and the blood was of those who fell and that I might end up down there.
Yeah, I was a pretty jumpy autistic kid who thought too hard about things more than they should have been, and I'd crap myself that if that for this overhaul that not only they brought back the blood rivers and decided to put animatronic monsters coming out of the blood my nightmares would become a reality.
I'm sure some idiot at Merlin is going to read this and go 'now that's a good idea!' and decide to look at the Flume duck and put down there...anyone else had scary experiences about Nemesis first hand when you were a kid? Only happy to give my earliest memories of the old girl to this thread, even if it does sound laughable regarding my fears.

I think with what they did on the last day and the lead up to it with all the Phalanx stuff, it will either be a continuation of the story, so all of the backstory will still be there but with this continuing it. Or, this and Sub-Terra next season serving as the completion of this current story, and it re-opening with a complete re-theme, new name and all. In the 5 Live interview John did say "It'll be closing through next year, and then opening again in 2024 as....." and then seemed to stop himself as if he had or was going to say too much. You can hear it here (at 3:20 if it doesn't automatically go to the correct time):I hope that when Nemmy reopens after the retrack, the original backstory will remain with perhaps some added theming, and as little of the Phalanx as possible.

In this video, while waiting for the last train, you can see the monorail stops too, which was a nice touch. Either that or it coincidentally broke down at the right place!

I was actually waiting under the monorail track at this point, and it could well be just a coincidence. Having said that, it did then reverse, presumably to go back into the depot.

"Demented ski-lift"

If Andy Hine can get an MBE for services to tourism, John Wardley should be eligible too as his creations and work have helped tourism surely?

Funny you should say that, I have suggested that JW should be getting not just a MBE but a knighthood for what he has done for the theme park industry in this country."Demented ski-lift"

On another note, heaven above when he does pass on, he won't need one of those blue plagues attached to a house to remember him by...Nemesis and (hopefully if they are still running by then) the other attractions he designed will be what we'll have to remember him by, much like how Brunel's engineering works that still stand today are tribute to him.
Damn, does make you think.

I was thinking about that. Even a statue of him outside Nemesis would be a nice tribute.

If they do stick a statue of John somewhere in the park I think a perfect one would be, like the statues of people sat on benches with an empty space next to them, a statue of him sat in a Nemesis seat (restraint down) with the test seat next to it.
Somehow a conventional statue just doesn't seem fitting for someone like him. Oh and do it before he shuffles off this mortal coil, sick of waiting until someone has gone before you celebrate their greatness.

The way Merlin look after their stuff the statute would be left in a state of disrepair for many years once it ages, then have a health and safety fence put around it (with viewing windows if we're lucky), then be painted purple like everything else to try and hide it's dilapidation before being "rethemed" with a Phalanx uniform and a gun. When it's beyond repair, it'll be replaced by a vinyl picture of him from Leek signs.

Wouldn't it be nice if Alton Towers kept a little bit of the track, maybe the corkscrew or helix and either worked it into the current entrance or placed it somewhere else. I mean, they have a whole coaster of spare track.
Corkscrew is what heralded the start of what we know as Alton Towers today and Nemesis is what really cemented the park as a world class destination. It would be a shame if they didn't place some of the track somewhere, a missed opportunity for sure. As both Corkskew and Nemesis are not just any old coasters in terms of their lineup.

Building upon this idea, maybe they could change the entrance to a ripped-up old track piece, similar to what Universal Orlando did with Hulk? It would certainly fit the theme, and it would make for a cracking visual centrepiece, in my opinion!Wouldn't it be nice if Alton Towers kept a little bit of the track, maybe the corkscrew or Helix and either worked it into the current entrance or placed it somewhere else. I am all for these ideas, great ideas. Even incorporating the track anywhere would be great. They have loads of it. It fits the theme. It costs them nothing to use. It ticks all the box's.

If they keep the same theme it would be good to see some of the old track replace the fake bits of track that are currently there coming out of the monster.Wouldn't it be nice if Alton Towers kept a little bit of the track, maybe the corkscrew or helix and either worked it into the current entrance or placed it somewhere else. Was going to say that and wouldn't be suprised of that's the case though there is the question of are they going to sell bits of the track first to the public?Building upon this idea, maybe they could change the entrance to a ripped-up old track piece, similar to what Universal Orlando did with Hulk? Now in the original lore, the track was supposed to be coming out of the creature as in bone or something in which I've forgotten what is what.
