Bellewaerde Park: General Discussion

Yeah it's very much family thrills with Wakala, Huracan, and Dawson Duel. Plus the first ever boomerang to operate.
Have a very rare topple tower as well which is worth a go but something that's much better to watch than ride.

A really good Jungle Cruise type ride with a mixture of animatronics and real animal exhibits.
Also a a Harry Houdini themed mad house.
Plus a Lemur enclosure you can go into!

Do you know if you have to go on Dawson Duel by yourself if you're over 1.2m? Doesn't seem to clarify on the website, only that it's mandatory if you're between 1-1.2m.

I don't have a clue sorry.

What I would suggest is heading straight to it as it gets quite the queue. When I visited Wakala opened with the park so got a few goes on that. Then waited round for Dawson Duel to open at 11am and quickly got both sides.

If you use YouTube coaster studios reviewed the park a couple of days ago. Gives a very good overview.

Ah thanks, will check that out! I'm midway through the TPWW vlog but that's from last year. Looks like a quiet day too.

Just didn't want to climb all the way to the top with my son who has mobility issues only to not be allowed on together.

Edit: Wow that was a great video, thanks for the tip! Concise and lots of excellent footage. There was a glimpse of the sign and looked like only single riders above 1.2m so probably one to skip. Huracan looks brilliant though.

They have staff at the bottom you'll be able to ask as you can't take bags up to the top so they've got people manning a free bag store.

Huracan isn’t listed on the app, it’s not even marked as closed, anyone know why? Is it closed this year?

Edit: I found if i use the app and select it on the map it comes up as "closed" but it's otherwise not listed which so suspect means it's a planned closure. Doesn't seem to be any information on the site in regards to this.

My attempts at visiting Europe keep getting thwarted :(

Edit2: They actually replied very quickly to my email! "Huracan is normally open". So i guess i'll keep an eye on it this week before we book anything.

According to Theme Park Magic, Bellewaerde Park is in the early stages of adding a Vekoma Suspended Thrill Coaster to their lineup, to be placed on a former storage area and farming land. Exciting!

Nice! Is that 25 or 26?

They updated their app this week which means you can no longer see which rides are open or queue times 😞

That would be a brilliant addition for the park. They are in need of a headline coaster and a Vekoma STC will achieve a good balance of family and thrill.

From what I understand the boats where not from Intamin as the park chose to go with a cheaper manufacture rather than the same more expensive ones intamin wanted to supply for the ride. From what I have read it’s these boats that’s been causing the issues

Intamin prototypes go wrong at the best of times, so why on earth would you get boats from a different manufacturer which was always likely to add to the woes?!?

I wonder what the chances of this ride lasting more than 10 years are.

Oh Intamin, you mad bastards.

I’m surprised Intamin agreed to sell them it without using their own boats as part of the contract, but then again this is Intamin we’re talking about here. Nothing ever really surprises me from those wonderful fools.

So I popped to Bellewarde at the weekend and managed to experience the new rapids, which officially reopened last weekend.

Firstly the whole new area is lovely, it’s colourful and has lots of little details all over it, it’s nice to have three brand new rides, a food unit, shop, toilet block and a refreshed log flume. However the retheme of the log flume only goes to the station and queue, the actual ride is just as bad as before and definitely needs some money spending on it.

Now on to the ride, it’s actually really good but also totally weird and crazy, it’s also rather rough around the edges, you often go flying off your seat or the boats go bashing around.

We did it a few times during the day and got totally different rides, often depending on boat size (they weigh the group before you get on). Sometimes we would spin constantly during the whole ride, other times very little spinning. Again sometimes the whole boat would get soaked (this one poor boy on our boat had what I can only describe as a full bucket of water poured over him constantly during the ride), other times not so much.

However it is a really good ride, Intamin probably just need to iron a few of the kinks out. It also looks like a technical nightmare with the moving station, on to a spinning tilting platform which transfers you to the really quick lifthill, you’ve got the rotating second lift, and then then there’s the whole drop track section (which was also really fun and unique). Theres a lot of sensors all over the ride which I believe are causing issues. We did see it go down a few times during the day at one point they did evac everyone off the ride, but usually it was fairly quick before it reopened.

The new area definitely does make some of the older parts of the park look run down now though, so I’m hoping they keep up the good work and keep redoing other areas of the park.

Saw this in the queue line as well which I found funny considering everything that’s happened to the ride since it opened.

Don't think it has been mentioned but there seem to now be 2 other new rides open in the Amazon area.

One looks to be a children's rollercoaster and the other a mini log flume, as seemingly they need even more water rides.
