Another topic that I had over on TTF that I've brought over here now that we have a RCT3 and No Limits section on our brand spankin' new site here! :p

I've finally decided to start sharing a few of my creations online to get feedback and (hopefully) improve my work.

I'll upload the tracks to my Mega Upload and post a few pictures on my Photobucket so that you can see what you download before hand.

Apologies if any of my coasters seem a little bumpy in spots as I make all of them by hand rather than with Newton 2. Some of the supports could probably be a lot better too but I'll get better over time. :)

Here's my first one:

Teaser Alert!

TengSign.png

Teng:

My very first themed roller coaster and my very first B&M wing rider roller coaster (using the floorless trains as a substitute) is flying your way very soon. I'll be making my own scenery for it and the entire thing will be held up using custom supports. I've got it as smooth as possible and created a unique layout but with a few elements that took inspiration from existing and soon-to-be wing riders from across the globe. :D

In the mean time, I've decided to go-against what I said and upload another existing wooden roller coaster called 'Expedition'. Again, this is one of my earliest creations and so it isn't as smooth as it should/could be in spots and the supports and layout need adjusting. Originally I'd planned on deleting the ride but after seeing it again I decided to save it for uploading. I've not had time to smooth it all out but I did manage to drastically increase the rides throughput by adding trims, speeding up the lift, using bigger and longer trains and also adding another train too the ride as well.

All of this will be here very soon! :D

Teng will be a wing rider, yes. Expedition won't be though. I'm uploading that now.... :D

Expedition
---------------

Data
Type: Wood
Capacity per hour = 1100 (24 people per train, 3 trains)

Ride Length: 3550ft
Max Height: 101.5ft
Biggest Drop: 83.5ft
Total Drops: 15

Once 'Teng' is completed, I'll be starting work on 'Shuriken', a NoLimits Custom Eurofighter with two dark ride sections, two launches and an indoor beyond vertical drop! Shuriken would go alongside Teng at a theme park as a small, lower budget addition that offers a different kind of thrilling experience. :)

Here's Shuriken's logo in the mean time:

I bet you can't guess what's going through here? :p

This tower will stand next to the broken brick wall for my 'Teng' wing rider coaster:

TengTowerScreenshot.png

Teng's station is now completed:

TengWingRiderStationScreenshot.png

I've also finished the lift hill, added supports to about half of the coaster now and created a couple of pools around the ride. I still need to make a rock tunnel for at the bottom of first drop, a building with a collapsed roof, add bamboo and palms, finish the supports, add a few paths and create gates for the station. Then I can film a pov and off-ride for it, take some pictures and upload the track to my Mega Upload account. :)

Work has now begun on 'Shuriken'. This ride will probably take longer to make as it will feature much more custom scenery and improved supports and track work (hopefully anyway :p ).

I've made a simple texture for my cars as promised:

Wild Thing

WildThingTeaser.png

The world's first baby B&M dive machine! :p

Featuring a 95 degree drop - the steepest drop on any B&M roller coaster yet!

For better results with Wild Thing, untick the 'Improved Friction'. For some reason, my coaster has lost 3mph and it hangs at the top of the immelmann for too long. Its top speed at the bottom of the drop was 42 originally but now it's 39. It still only reaches up to 40mph without 'improved friction' though. :/

Anyway, here are two more shots:

My next coaster that I'm working on (besides Shuriken) is a kids coaster.

This new ride is basically designed as a replacement for the Beastie at Alton Towers as I feel that they should have replaced it by now so I've come up with my own design. The new coaster would actually be constructed where the Ice Show tent is as this is a larger footprint. The theme will tie-in with Storybook Land and will pay tribute to Peter Rabbit which was one of the best ice shows that the park ever hosted (in my opinion at least).

The ride is a little tamer than the Beastie (i.e. won't have 100+ laterals). It's smooth and painted to match its surroundings. The coaster will also feature more custom scenery. A story will be provided for this new ride in due course.

One fact that I can reveal about this new ride is that its theoretical capacity is 1160 riders per hour. This is 360 more riders per hour than the Beastie. This would eventually mean that this ride would rarely have a queue (apart from the first year that it would operate)! This kind of throughput isn't really necessary, it's just how it ended up once I'd finished making the coaster. My calculations are based off an actual equation though, not complete nonsense!

So far, I have finished the layout of the ride. Next will be supports, then the station and then the rest of the scenery before I finish it all off with some trees.

ALT003.jpg
:)

Here's the layout plan for my new ride:

:)

Reports of an unidentified flying object over parts of the UK have now been discarded as the government reveals a new secret weapon (cheeky :p ) that's been in development for a number of years.

According to eye-witnesses, this craft is capable of hovering upside-down before launching to its top speed in a matter of seconds! The project is still classified but it is thought that a document regarding this new jet will be released shortly.

Unmarked lorries have been spotted near one government facility that are thought to be holding the parts to this craft. They're distinguished by this logo:

Stealth-BtRLogo.png

This next update is to prove that I'm still working on this project:

Don't forget to let me know what you think of it. :)

A photo has been uploaded all over the web by an anonymous source and it's believed to show evidence of the new 'S: BtR' secret military craft being tested. Although it was taken in poor light conditions, a fast moving object can be seen moving across the bottom of the photo. Sites that have had this image uploaded to are being told to remove it, so it's only a matter of time before someone sees this copy here and this goes the same way!

Introducing....

ShotTowerCoasterConcept.png

Although it would be impossible to do this in NL, I can make a themed coaster and indicate where this element would take place. Thoughts?

:)

I'm making a new ride and I've got a bit of a problem. I don't know what to call it! :p I've thought of a selection of names and suitable themes that fit with them, but I just can't decide on one. Here are the candidates:

1) Bone Crusher
2) Interceptor
3) Overlord
4) Megasaur
5) Raider
6) Monstrosity
7) Wolverine

Some of them sound a bit cheesy, but sometimes cheesy is fun! I think my favourites are 1, 4 and 7.

I may as well release a the logo for my new ride as it demonstrates the theme. I may release some of the back story for it too but I'll see how supporting the ride goes first as I've lost my patience with doing custom supports because they just take far too long (even though they do look vastly superior to the standard ones.

:)

So I haven't been able to make any No Limits rides for a while (yeah, thanks computer :p ) which has given me time to develop one of my ideas a little further.

BucktoothCreekRampage.png

Ride Name: Bucktooth Creek Rampage
Roller Coaster Type: Gerstlauer Eurofighter
USP: World's first shot tower coaster (that has already been though-up, but nonetheless :p ).
Theme: Swampy Creek / Barn Yard
Style: Family thrill, verging on white knuckle.

(These two images are of a poor quality due to the fact that I spent about an hour planning them but only 2 minutes drawing them  )

I wanted to combine the ride with a little comedy, so forgive me for this rather cheesy storyline/description... :p

Queue Description

Scene 1: Upon entering the tool shed you notice that something is wrong. Something is rumbling under your feet. The shelves are moving and the tools are shaking. You hear a crash and someone howls and curses. Bucktooth Bill appears above you in the rafters (projection mapping) after his sleep was disturbed by the strange goings on causing a hammer to clonk him on his noggin.

Scene 2: The animals are going berserk and the farmers can’t control them (animatronics). Wild ‘mooing’ and ‘bahhhing’ fills the room and you can’t help but laugh at the carnage being created by the pesky animals.

Scene 3: The pantry has begun to fill with water and Bill’s vegetables are at risk. There are cracks in the floorboards and water bubbles up from below. You move on quickly before things get out of hand.

Show: So what’s going on here? Bill rushes in to the room (projection mapping) to explain to you what’s happening in his barn and why by showing guests a few sepia stills on his old rusty projector. Bucktooth Barn was constructed in a creek. Little did Bill know that the creek was infamous for its magnificent geysers that blast water out wherever you look. His family decided to make use of this phenomenon by creating a mine cart that would provide tours of the creek. He tells you not to worry about the chaos you’ve just witnessed and assures you that the rest of the tour will be completely safe.

Scene 4: The next room seems peaceful. Perhaps Bill was right and the only crazy goings on have already taken place? Think again! A hole in the floor begins to gurgle before the floorboards tremble and water sprays out from underground, showering the queue in cold spray.

Scene 5: A car seems to have crashed through the wall of the barn and Bill’s brothers are strapped in, laughing their heads off (animatronics). The wheels are still spinning around and smoke is pouring out of the back of the mine cart, so it must have just happened!

Ride Description

The car leaves the station and jerks right before shooting up a rackety lift (sfx). You hear Bill yelling not to worry. The car flies off the lift and down into the murky depths of the barn before rising back up into a brake run. Bill waves to you as your car hurtles past (animatronic).

Another quick turn and your back down again, this time only narrowly missing the track above you. The next set of brakes bring you to an abrupt halt. You hear Bill mumbling and gears cranking before he tells you that everything is working again and your car starts to move once more. The car spins around a corner after almost heading off the rails into some bales of hay and then slows down once again.

You stop in a ventilation shaft and Bill runs in once more to try and get your car going again. The track ahead leads outside and around a corner, but you won’t be going that way this time! The room shakes and some wooden crates fall over. Bill tells you to hold on tight before he runs out of the room and slams the door. Suddenly your sprayed in mist and a tremendous ‘woooooshing’ noise is a geyser erupting below your car. The car and track are hurled up into the air; to the very top of the tower. You’re stomach churns as the car bounces up and down on the gushing water before you feel a bump. Bill has slid some girders below the car to stop you from crashing to the floor. A hatch opens in front of you and he pushes you out and down the escape run (100 degree eurofighter drop).

The car heads out and down a tremendous drop in front of the barn. At the bottom of the drop even more geysers erupt in an almost synchronised manner. You race over a small hill for a pop of air-time and then twist onto your side and whirl around the main lake; fountains of water spraying up and over your heads. You approach the first inversion – an immelman – and roll over before shooting back down again. Up and over the walkways, your car speeds along the creek before a terrific diving loop and a steep climb into an outbuilding (housing the mid-course brake run that runs above some games stalls and snack stands) where you can catch your breath before the madness resumes!

Once again, you find yourselves gaining speed as you leave the comfort of the barn. A tight helix is the precursor to another great drop; this time, over the entrance to the queue that you’d not long since walked through. A corkscrew turns your world upside-down before a disorientating flash from the on-ride camera that may or may not have distracted you from seeing the misty cave that you’re about to drop into. Your car rises back out at a terrific pace before you roll through another corkscrew. That’s not the end just yet; the car lifts into the air and rolls under a tight ‘u’ shaped turn before exiting into another helix that’s dug into a trench. You emerge from the trench into a banked section before levelling out and coming to a stop on the brakes.

A return to the station signals the end of your chaotic tour of Bucktooth Creek. Don’t forget your photo on your way out!

So I'll hopefully be able to make this (or something along these lines) one day. Let me know what you think of the concept.

:)

Managed to throw the first section of the ride together on my laptop:

BCRupdate1.png

That's all of the dark section to the ride completed. The blue outlines demonstrate the tower that would enclose the shot tower launch section and the red line stands for a rough average ground height level for the area.

The tower section could have space below ground height (besides the area for the technical bits n' bobs) to drop into so you launch to the top of the room, bob up and down, fall below where you started and then rise back up to lock into place and continue the rest of the ride.

:)

Here's an update on the projects that I've been working on so far...

Monstrosity: B&M inverted
El Diablo: GCI woodie (inspired by the destroyed roller coaster in Fallout New Vegas)
Soar: B&M flyer (featuring special world first drop - teaser coming soon)
Bucktooth Creek Rampage: Gerstlauer eurofighter (featuring a world first shot tower - teaser coming soon)
Sausage Looper: Schwarzkopf looper
Shuriken: Gerstlauer eurofighter

As each ride is released, I'll cross it off from the list above. :)

So here's the teaser of another ride that I've been working on on my laptop: Soar - a B&M flying coaster with many unique elements, most notably, the first major drop (I need to think of a name for it :p ).

Feel free to comment on the teaser and anything else. :)

Wasn't sure whether or not to post it as it's not a coaster as such, just a new take on an element. I've no idea if it exists either, so forgive me if it does. :p

For now, I've called it the 'Interlocking Duelling Roll' as it's an ordinary barrel roll but is designed for duelling coasters. Basically, the two tracks/sides line up (the trains running along them side-by-side) and the two perform a barrel roll around each other. The two trains effectively roll over and under one another and create a unique near-miss effect. The element could be performed once, twice or three times to prolong the effect.

I'm sorry that the concept I've created to illustrate the element is rough (i.e. has no supports, isn't very smooth or heart-lined and the cars don't properly line up with one another), I just wanted to make a mock-up of the idea I had floating around in my head.

Let me know if anything like this exists or if you'd like to incorporate such an element into one of your own coasters as it'd be cool to see a more refined version in action.

:)

Here's another world first concept that popped into my head a couple of days ago...

Motion Simulator Track:

MotionSimCoasterTrack.jpg

MotionSimCoasterTrack2.jpg

The model above is two separate pieces that I borrowed to demonstrate the concept from the 3D Warehouse. I don't claim that either of the pieces are my own work, I simply put them together for this idea.

1. Basically, a small train (it could either be a single car or between 2 and 4 cars long) is brought to a halt on top of the track section which is held up on a motion simulator mechanism.

2. A section of track behind slides down to prevent the track with the train on it from striking it whilst the motion simulator is in-motion.

3. The train is then lifted up and down and spun around before it resumes to its original position or to a new area of track so that the ride can continue.

This element could be done as part of an enclosed show scene with other effects, or on its own in a themed environment, etc...

The obvious question after this (besides 'how on earth would you get that to work?' :p ) is, how would such an element fit into a ride to make it worth investing money in its development (as if that would ever happen! :p )? Well, I thought I'd throw together a quick concept layout and add theming too it once I get time. Here is my idea for how the element could be incorporated into a roller coaster:

TheYetiLogo.png

MotionSimCoasterTrack3.jpg
It's still obviously a work in progress! :p

This idea is for a family thrill ride. The ride begins at a science/research outpost in the Himalayas and you board a train designed to look like an advanced snowmobile to hunt the legendary yeti.

The ride rolls out of the station and turns into a LSM launch run to give it some speed. The launch pulls 1.25 G's and reaches a maximum speed of 45mph before the end of the launch, ready for the next part of the ride.

The train slows down and rolls into a cave which looks like it could be a suitable hiding place for the illusive creature. The train pauses to allow those on-board to look around, but the creature attack the train from behind. The train rises up inside a dark, icy cave and is hurled around and you're powerless against the might of the monster that has you in its grip.

The yeti soon becomes tired and lowers your snowmobile to the ground (in-line with a different section of track as opposed to the track from which you'd just entered the cave) before you make a swift getaway. The ride does a second launch, this time to 50 mph, ready for the finale!

The whole sequence wouldn't last any longer than 40 seconds to allow the track to rest and be ready for the next train

I've said before, what you lack in technical skill (although your improvement is startling), you make up for with creative, inspired layouts and beautiful looking coasters.

Thanks, Blaze! :D I agree, you can see how my coasters start out being crap and gradually become less crappy. :p

Since I got back from my holiday in Florida, I decided to take some inspiration for a new coaster. It's big and it's green and it's very, very fast! I present to you...

This is actually part of a park concept that I'm designing. Which is a combination of the different Universal parks and many of my own attraction ideas.

The name isn't great but it doesn't matter as it's just a concept. :p

Is that No Limits CT? Like the Intamin double spine someone made when they did a Intimidator 305 recreation. If so, please release it, I would love to make Rocky Mountain coasters. :)

Ryan, I read a tutorial on how to do it and it's actually just a scene object, not custom track. Basically, download the Construction Kit from NL Exchange (it's now free) and open your finished ride in it and head over the the 'Modeller' tab and edit the rails of your ride to between 0.18 and 0.22 and then make both of the square. Once you've sorted that, just save the rails only as an object and stick the rails on your ride over in No Limits. Simple!

:)

Bump!

It's been a while but I've finally got NL working properly and came up with this compact wooden roller coaster for Chessington World of Adventures...

Data:

Name: Wooden Roller Coaster Concept
Designer: Alexander Machin
Park: Chessington World of Adventures
Ride Location: Empty plot behind Wild Asia
Ride Type: GCI style wooden family thrill ride

Trains: 3 (9 cars per train, two seats per car, 18 seats)
Predicted Capacity: 1116 riders per hour
Dispatch Time: Every 58 seconds
Height whilst on lift: 22 meters / 72.2ft
Track Height: 20 meters / 66.6ft
Largest Drop Height: 19 meters / 62.3ft
Length: 2705ft
Inversions: 0
Top Speed: 42mph

Description:

Chessington World of Adventures is one of my favourite parks and I feel that a wooden roller coaster would really make for a great addition, so I decided to design one to go behind Wild Asia on the empty plot of land which sits above the car park.

I understand that the park has strict regulations imposed on it by the local council, so height, tree removal and noise levels need to be considered when the park wants to create a new attraction. To help, using my own experiences, help from people who know the park and its history well, various images and Google and Bing maps, I selected an area that would require no trees which shield the plot from exterior view to be cut down, made sure that no existing attractions would be affected and that the ride would be low enough not to be visible from out of the park.

However, it did only take three days for me to make this ride, so please forgive any bumps, incorrect heartlining and potentially bad supporting. :p

Comments:
The ride could become the headline attraction in a new themed land or it could join the other attractions in Wild Asia as an expansion. It would require some tree removal from the area surrounding the coaster and some along the long stretch of trees to the left of Dragon Falls. May also require one or two paths to be redirected, landscaping for trenches and the tunnel at the end of the ride. None of the existing attractions would need moving, removing or altering.

Here are some photos of the ride and a few plans too...

Thanks, Blaze! :D It's probably not the smoothest though, but I did only spend three days on it! :p

Maybe a bit bumpy and unrefined in places, but not really any more than any decent woodie. The layout is great and it rides so well. So fun and exciting. Not to mention the realism is to class, great ambition to actually design a ride for a real place like that.

The dark ride section seems a bit pointless and short, and would probably work as a pre-lift, covered or otherwise, but apart from that, it's a great piece of work.

Well the station and mini dark ride section would make more sense if they were themed. I have ideas for it all but I'll need more time to either write something out and/or create a few sketches of key pieces of theming, etc...

Glad you like it though! :)

Looks like Intamin shaping to me, although you can never be shore. There's something that looks like a pretzel loop on the far side of the coaster, as well as a dive loop/immelmann that goes underground. Looks like fairly extensive theming as well.

I'm interested.

Not for my next ride (that's the one I just posted), but the one after the next one(unless I make a smaller ride before I release that :p )...

Teaser.gif

Very nice, I imagine there'll be a real coaster with design like that after next year :)

Dude, that shaping is fantastic, really very nice!

I imagine you've finally cracked Newton with that. The only problem is the angle of the photo- it leaves you struggling to work on the scale- the pretzel loop looks huge. Still, it looks great anyway.

Thanks guys! And Nick, I wish it was Newton but sadly it's all hand built, so I imagine there may be an odd pump when I come to film it for Youtube. :/

Oh, and that isn't really a pretzel loop, it's the lift and then the ride drops straight down (into a tunnel in a lake) and then you roll back to the correct position on the way back up (so it starts like a pretzel but ends with a roll) before a helix, barrel-roll, a banked turn, dive, inverting roll (twist onto back around a corner), dive into a vertical loop (part underground), a ride and flip over the lift/station building, a high speed section around and past the station, a final barrel roll and then an overbank turn before hitting the brakes.
