Blackpool Pleasure Beach: 2021 Discussion

An example is Grand National. Unsure whether it ever ran 8 trains but used to definitely run 6. Pair of trains show up on manual brakes, a rough amount of people pile on and they go. No restraints or anything to worry about. Compared to now with that god awful KumbaK system foisted on the ride, speedypass and a disabled queue to contend with and it's nowhere near.
 
Interesting tweet from Amanda Thompson about Valhalla. She says the only thing she knows about it is that she’s not getting what she wanted

“I wonder……… I only know I am not getting what I wanted …..”

This was in response to a tweet about the future of the turn table
 
Busy summers in my early teens, hard cash...long queue, but never waited more than ten minutes for the National.
Then came the slower downers...in no particular order...my memory fails.
Tickets, seatbelts, lapbars, seatbelts and lapbars, wristbands, speedypass, kumbak systems, repeated staff training through the season, idiots with mobile phones out, lard blockages, broken backs, covid.
That is a full dozen reasons why one particular coaster on the Beach doesn't run like it used too.
Pay per ride/tickets was such a better system.
Ride your rides in a couple of hours, then play on the real beach, wander the piers, fly a kite, have a nice picnic down at the solarium.
Now you get pay one price "value", and stand in queues for 90% of your day.
This is progress.
And bring back the Fun house and Reel.
There you go Rick.

Based on what I know about her (which tbh is mostly based on that old documentary from the 90s) that doesn't really surprise me - she comes across as someone who'd be extremely difficult to please.

Got a few pages behind (alerts stopped). Ah yes that sounds familiar. I’ll renew this month but it wouldn’t surprise me if this renewal price 1 month window extends across Oct & maybe beyond as it has done before.
 
So with the season pass at £99 and what looks like is going to be £40 or more entry fee next year then its almost worth a season pass for 2 visits when you factor in food and merch discounts.

Anyone planning to stop in the hotel may as well just buy a season pass with the 15% hotel discount.

I shall certainly be renewing mine.

Yes if you only need three visits to save money its a bargain I think if you do like to visit regularly.

Although Merlin pass renewals at £159/229 means five to seven visits so thats only twice to each theme park really.

At the risk of regurgitating old topics (again)

Why don't they try having a dedicated pay per ride day ? Could even do it when they don't normally open - (e.g feb half term midweek.)

Couple of quid to get in then Charge £3 a ride - Maybe £5 for the big hitters.

Doesn't matter if a few are closed because you are only paying for what you ride.

Reckon if they promoted it well it could be a success. But even if it isn't , its worth a shot to see isn't it ?

It's good they are offering existing pass holders a discount again.

May even renew for my son at £90. No great loss if he only goes twice.

I think that would be utter mayhem!!

Pay per ride worked well enough in the 90s, but it's more suited to travelling fairs than established amusement parks imo.

A tiered wristband system seems like a better idea to me, so you pay more to ride the big thrill rides and less to ride only the smaller, family-friendly attractions.

It would need varied pricing, why pay £3 for Alice when the Big One is the same price.

At risk of regurgitating, thats why ticket sheets were so good, you only got two AA tickets so had to decide which headline ride to choose, but more C/D tickets for the smaller rides.
