Blackpool Pleasure Beach: 2024 Discussion

I watched Your Experience Guide's recent video on park, to which Scott stated he's heard rumours that The Big One will not be getting any further re-tracking work done.

What do we think the future has in store for the ride? It's 30 years old, has awful profiling, is heavily weathered continually due to its location and overall is not a great ride experience. It can't last forever, and the question is what would happen to a ride that large and rust prone should issues arise in a few years time if the park aren't willing to continue to invest into it's maintenance?

They may have decided on a strategic plan that it has to come down within the next few years/decade. 250-foot Mack incoming.

Amusing view of the actual situation...
The council agreed that they would not allow any rides on the south promenade when the Thompson's sold them the land to continue the tramlines to Star Gate, and to expand the promenade, many years ago.
Part of the agreement was the "Pleasure Beach" signs on the tram destination boards, the rest was a very clear agreement that only the Beach could run amusement rides on the South Promenade.

The issue wasn't with showmen setting up a couple of rides, the issue was breach of contract at the time with the council, who didn't actually have the power to allow them to set up.

I understand the council agreed to settle out of court, and admitted they were in the wrong at the time.
The council then agreed to limit what was to be placed on the prom.
An agreement that has since been pretty much upheld.
Allegedly.
Even the go carts by the south pier breached the regulations, so their relocation from Star Gate was only a temporary agreement.

First visit today in a very long time. The only good coaster now is icon, That ride is excellent easily top 5 UK coaster. All the rest are just unpleasant and rough. The big one is just a jolty mess these days. Valhalla is very good too even if you get utterly drenched. I had a great day out and enjoyed my visit but they really need to tear out some of these coasters and build smoother ones.

Ah yes, what better way to show that you are now a tasteful classy resort than to launch a Valhalla full tracksuit...

I think the Icon jacket just on it's own wouldn't actually be too awful, but the way they are marketing them as tracksuits with matching bottoms is quite funny.

If anyone wants one I'll get some Valhalla patches made up and stick them on some trackie bottoms. £5 cheaper than what BPB are selling them for.
