Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

What sort of negative customer feedback has the Mouse received? I hear nothing but praise for the Mouse from enthusiasts.
Yes because we love(d) it as a ride. The general public who throw about words like 'rough' 'violent' 'unsafe' and 'whiplash' as soon as they experience the slightest bit of discomfort on a ride are partly to blame. Just seen the sad news and am lost for words . . .

In the general public's defence, the ride did sound pretty insane in a strange sort of way compared to some of the UK's more modern rides e.g. Nemesis, Icon etc. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if I would have properly appreciated the Mouse had I had the chance to ride it, as I hated Rattlesnake at Chessington with a vengeance. Even though the Mouse sounds like a completely different kettle of fish, Rattlesnake is the closest thing I have to compare it to. For those who rode it, what exactly did the ride feel like?

Is that official or a guess? It was the insurers who refused to insure it. No insurance, no ride.
I think the way the park have gone about the removal is the most annoying and saddest part.
Yes it had complaints from the public and you can understand the park being concerned with the ride but they could have done things to help cover themselves.
Clear information on the ride entrance warning riders of the ride experience or even adding an age restriction would have helped I am sure.
The very least they should have done was to be honest and tell people that the ride was going to close and offer the chance for the public to get a final ride.

And at least I have the proud claim that I didn't hold on once in its last couple of seasons.
Wake as well as a bike ride on the prom on Tuesday then dippy.
And I had heard exactly the same as Temleh shakey, public liability has been going through the roof over the last decade for every park due to the modern fad of blame claims...no insurance company was willing to take it on for an economic price...let's all blame the yanks for starting it.

Some of this discussion is almost as irrational as I thought it might be. There are some opinions being presented in this thread as fact, which is unfortunate. A friend told me it was to be gone before the new season, but I didn't believe them - my bad!
As someone who was brought up a few miles from the park, the ride is very much part of my childhood and certainly one of the rides that made me a coaster nerd. I have many fond memories of it, but for a multitude of reasons, it was probably time for it to go.
The park wasn't designed to be a museum - times change, things change. The sheer number of rides that have come and gone over the course of more than a century is quite staggering, some will be remembered more than others, but suspect few will be remembered in quite the same way as the mouse.

This ride was one of the very few things that made those 42 acres of land on Blackpool seafront the Pleasure Beach for me. I will miss it enormously. But nothing lasts forever.

Indeed @Rick, and as special as the Mouse was to many, Blackpool are getting what some might consider a new special ride in 2018 in the form of Icon. Some of this discussion is almost as irrational as I thought it might be. 'Vandalism' of their own property? One of the most appalling acts of deliberate vandalism in the history of the industry.

Sad as it was one of my favourite wooden coasters. Surprised actually as they spent money on it recently on automated breaking/control system etc - I suppose they must have tried to get it insurance-friendly but not succeeded (or in doing so made it so unreliable it wasn't worth keeping open). So in their defence at least they *tried*.
Fondly remember one offpeak day doing 71 laps on the mouse.

I knew everyone on hear will be mourning the ride here as soon I heard it might be closing.
What I've heard is it's either being removed or getting a massive refurb, So very unlikely to open in 2018.

Looks like a pretty massive refurb mate. What I've heard is it's either being removed or getting a massive refurb, So very unlikely to open in 2018.

Actually looking very closely it appears the bottom deck hasn't been demolished yet, so suppose it's not impossible that it's getting a big refurb - although I think it's unlikely as Icon would keep the coaster count at 10 (and not require an 11th coaster ride op team), plus with its location a full rebuild during opening season seems unlikely. What I've heard is it's either being removed or getting a massive refurb, So very unlikely to open in 2018.

Judging by the photos that is one hell of a refurb!!!

I'm not really in the know with things when it comes to BPB when compared to other major UK parks(BPB is the last major UK I haven't visited). So don't blame me if I get facts wrong about park news.
Sorry.

BPB Statement in Ref to the Removal of the "Wild Mouse"
After very careful consideration and planning, our current winter work programme has seen the permanent closure and dismantling of the Wild Mouse and the removal of the facade of the former Trauma Tower attractions. This will create an area for future exciting developments.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a constantly evolving amusement park and has been for the past 122 years. The changes it has seen over the years are what has made it the great park it is today. This, coupled with a relatively small amount of space, means that in order to progress and look to the future we occasionally need to alter the landscape of the park to make way for future developments.

It's OK @Bert2theSpark. I haven't visited BPB either, and you can't always get things right.I'm not really in the know with things when it comes to BPB when compared to other major UK parks(BPB is the last major UK I haven't visited). So don't blame me if I get facts wrong about park news.
