Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

My questions are whether this is allowed given that the Grand National is a listed building and whether Pleasure Beach can afford to do that work in the current climate.

Grand National isn’t actually listed. I believe that the only listed rides in the U.K. are Margate’s Scenic Railway and the Wicksteed Waterchute.

I have never hidden my feelings about Nash on this forum. It's a complete embarrassment to the park in its current state.

It's an awful, painful ride and I am surprised there haven't been more reports of people being injured. It really is that bad at the moment.

It's in dire need of major TLC or a major demolision. Whichever it is, something needs doing soon.

I do agree that something needs to be done but I don't think removing it is a good idea as it is one of the icons of Blackpool, I've heard lighter trains would help and possibly retracking some areas but I'm not sure if they would be allowed to do a fancy GCI/RMC or if Historic England would only allow a like for like replacement.

Much better in the good old days, when you had room and space to stand up and save your back.
 
Nash is a fun and amusing coaster (especially for it’s age) but it does seriously need some major re-tracking and some new or refurbished trains to bring it back upto greatness again.

From my first visit in 2014 to now, the ride has definitely gone down my coaster rankings mainly due to how rough it has become now.
 
It's just became ever rarer now they've announced the mobius loop woodie in Mexico is being removed. Sadly it means I can now say I've been on the two still currently operating. (Racer at Kennywood)
 
I’m not advocating the removal of Nash by any means, and to be honest, I’m not really sure if Titan Track would be a good idea, in hindsight. However, based on my rides on it, I would certainly like it a hell of a lot more if it wasn’t so rough.

On paper, I’m a huge fan of the ride’s layout. It’s full to the brim with some absolutely amazing airtime, it’s fast-paced, it packs just the right amount of thrill; based on layout alone, I think it would be right up there as one of my very favourite UK coasters, and definitely my favourite Pleasure Beach wooden coaster.

However, the fact that it’s so, so rough makes it my second to least favourite coaster I have ever ridden (if you’re wondering, my least favourite is Infusion). I know I shouldn’t make the ride’s roughness impact my opinion of it so much, but I have a pretty low roughness tolerance, and I’m afraid that in the ride’s current state, I really struggle to enjoy the good elements of the coaster because that roughness is just so overpowering.
 
Airtime Thrills mentioned this on one of his videos but I can't see it get the Titan Track! It just needs some TLC like @Rick said that's not bulldozing it @shakey though it is brutal today I believe it even sent a guy to hospital back in 2014!
 
It's interesting that the trains get the "blame". When the ride reopened with them after the 2004 fire, it was fine - it was different than it was pre-fire, but it was still my favourite coaster on the park.

What I suspect is true, is that these trains don't play as nicely on the track and the restraint configuration means that they are less forgiving with the riders.

With the old trains, any bad tracking was felt in the seat / back rest but the space between you and the restraint meant that you had quite a lot of space to rattle around in, rather than being pinned in to feel every blow of the insanity.

Was trying to think of a good analogy, but failed, but it's much like on the Dipper, where it pot holes, you feel it but not in the same way as you would do on the Nash.

Yes, unfortunately a man broke his neck and was paralysed. He had a severe underlying condition and shouldn't have been riding it. Surprised the park didn't get in any trouble though.

If they could sort Nash out then great. Many people have suggested it just needs lighter trains, but I suspect it may need more doing than that.

If costs are too high then I can't see them doing anything with it, so I really don't know what that means for the rides future if they won't sort it out.

Isn’t it true that grand national doesn’t have to supports to be RMC’d anyway (which I wouldn’t advocate even if you could), so surely it wouldn’t be possible to support Titan track either. Anyway classic woodies should remain woodies, surely GCI could just offer a re-track similar to GoldStriker.
 
The classic wooden coasters at the park don't have foundations like modern coasters so RMCing them would be impossible. Only coaster at the park they could do it to is the Big One.

The ride needs retracking and trains with better restraints. It was always my favourite ride in the 1990s, nowadays I'll go on it a few times a year at most.
