Cedar Point: General Discussion

So for those wondering what's happened to the big Cedar Point annoucement that was due last night, the park decide to postpone it as a mark of respect following the death of guest in the Raptor ride area last week. No news as to when the announcement will now take place however, track has been spotted in en route to the park:

Cedar Point have finally announced Valravn, the worst kept secret in the coaster world. Not a lot we don't already know of course, but amongst other things there's confirmation that the ride will run 3x 24 seat trains, making it by some distance the lowest capacity B&M in the park - expect long queues!

There's a minisite with all the information, though most of it is already in this thread anyway.

Probably because they're using the vest restraints. Which is itself an odd decision since it will surely restrict the airtime on the drop!

I'd guess it's to reduce drag. The 10 seater version must lose momentum much quicker, making it impossible to have more than 2 elements after each drop.

Alas layout aside this is the least interesting dive machine. No tunnel, not even a Griffen esk bridge, no splash down and no other special effects. The vertical drop isn't even that impressive when you consider Top Thrill Dragster has a bigger one right next door.

Cedar point have posted an animated POV!

Looks a good ride, but the colour scheme is almost identical to Rougarou, which is already strange as its in the same park, but its a newly refurbished coaster. Not quite sure what the design team were thinking...

Also no theming whatsoever, not even a sculpture, bridge, or any heavy landscaping whatsoever! Lets just hope the quality of the ride itself pays off though judging by feedback on their twitter, Facebook & YouTube pages, many people are not impressed!

:)

I don't think this looks as good as Griffon, mainly as it lacks the little pops at the end.

The MCBR kinda kills the ride, as after it the ride seems really slow and cumbersome to be honest, although that probably is one of the few places the MCBR could be placed. The drop looks fun though. :p

Saw this whilst away, looks good but I do feel slightly disappointed. Something a bit more with the layout would have been nice.

A shame about the 8 across cars also, I can only imagine this is down to weight. BGW wanted 10 across cars for Griffon however they were deemed to be too heavy, this is why the coaster was made floorless, to shed weight.

:)

Construction of Valravn is progressing with track at the bottom of the drop now in place, photos from TPR:

As welll as this, Cedar Point are re-painting both Top Thrill Dragster and Raptor over the closed season, here is a photo of the latter posted by the park:

A park that cares for how their world class rides look!

:)

There clearly isn't much interesting in Valravn but construction is progressing well, the lift is now up and they are in the process of finishing the main drop:

Again, very little interest in this on the whole it would seem, however the Valravn drop is now complete and the Immelmann is starting to rise over a snowy Cedar Point.
