I think next year is more a medium investment year in the park as according to a realised article through Merlin's sales suggests 2017 will be a high investment year for the park.
Back to 2016, the new high ropes will apparently be going near the south car park on newly purchased land and it is expected the large one will take up to three hours to complete, which sounds like it'll be quite a large scale addition.
As for Glamping that's going on the field new Wild Asia whilst the new ride as mentioned is going where the games were, I have no idea however what this attraction will be however.
I just looked at that. It’s interesting to see that 2015 is still classed as a capex year for Legoland. I thought it might have been downgraded after they cancelled the Haunted House. And next year’s classed as a minor year for the park, but again, I hope they’re still hoping to build something big if they can get planning permission (anyone know how that’s going?)
I realise the lack of a major new ride isn’t Merlin’s fault, and the park seems to be doing pretty well without one. I’d even argue that the soft improvements this year are very welcome, but still…
As for Chessington, I’m pleased to hear about the high ropes course. Aside from Alton Towers, I’d say that Chessington now has the most developed ‘resort’ side to any UK attraction, ahead of Drayton Manor, Flamingo Land etc. The high ropes course, combined with character breakfasts, indoor water play centre, late openings of Wanyama and Amazu, do make Chessington feel like a complete package for anyone wanting a short break.
But they really do need to come up with something special in 2017. They still have a decent theme park, but development’s been lethargic at best, live entertainment is really not that great for a park of such stature, they lack events, and the park is feeling very corporate. Throughputs have become a major problem, while they literally fill half the seats with people from Fast Track and exit queues.
To be fair I’ll still visit Chessington. Vampire is still as good as any family coaster in the country. Tomb and Bubble Works are still amongst the biggest dark rides. But next year they’re going to have a real job competing with Paultons.
