Chessington World of Adventures Resort

From studying the plans, its clear they're getting an SBF Top Dancer 18 seats :)

That looks like it's a good family thrill ride which should suit the park nicely. Jumping back to this year I have to take my hat off to Chessington after seeing the latest images of refurbishments being undertaken throughout the park. They're doing quite a lot of repainting and touch up work but it looks high quality and it's actually a large improvement over what was there originally.

Is there any signs of any confirmation on any new rides, for this season? There were rumours that the Rocky Express, Timber Tug Boat and Lumber Jump from Thorpe were coming to Chessington. News on these rides has dried up.

Maybe that's because your false predictions were exactly that? I'm sure if there was news then we would have seen it on various closed season reports.

This thread is becoming like Seastorm nowadays just feels like we're going round in circles to try and please one guy.

Speaking of unfounded rumours, Tomb Blaster is apparently open for Feb half term, with nothing to suggest that anything major has happened to it.

Going back to things that actually are happening, Chessington Buzz recently published an article predicting that the support ride for the new coaster will be an SBF Super Jumper rather than the Bounce Spin suggested by the planning documents

This year's Feb half term lineup is a bit bizarre...
Blue Barnacle
Tomb Blaster
Adventure Point
Land of the Dragons small rides and play areas
Not really enough for me to justify a trip down, perhaps if they added Gruffalo, Sea Storm, Vampire and Scorpion Express I might consider it.
Whereas Legoland have a near full lineup minus their water rides.

Chessington are the experts during these off-season periods at offering "not quite enough rides". There should be 1 rollercoaster open, especially if they have day guests able to visit.

I would say the same about ATR, but it's solely a hotel event.

Unfortunately @rob666 and @MattyH there is a twist in the bet. The twist is that if my information ends up happening you have to pay me £50 each. @Matt Creek this stands for you as well,as for the last couple of Closed ,you have said my information is untrue. I'm looking forward to getting my combined £150 from you all. My information can already be deemed true. Tomb Blaster is boarded off in preparation for the return of Forbidden Tomb. Another piece of my information that is currently being carried out is the Tunnel on Tiger Rock becoming a Tiger. You will all be incredibly apologetic and embarrassed on the first day of Chessington's 2022 when you visually st my information has taken place. On Chessington's opening day you'll be logging into Towerstreet to say sorry Prof Burp you were correct all along. As well as the cash I would like all my sceptics to apologise.

Am I correct in saying that Dragons Fury is higher, longer more thrilling and extra spinny that it's Younger Brother Spinball Wizzer (Sonic Spinball) at Alton Towers. Don't think I'm dissing Spinball Wizzer as I enjoy it. Actually I have only ever been to Alton Towers once. This was in 2014 and the only Rollercoaster I rode was Sonic Spinball as it was then known.

So just to clarify in 2 months time Tomb Blaster will be no more and will have been completely rethemed to the old Terror Tomb?

I'll take that bet. Do you have a website? BurpBet365.com?

Do you accept cheque?
@Prof Burp Where's my money?

Opening day is next month so they've got a month to fully remove Tomb Blaster and retheme to Terror Tomb.

It looks good... until you compare it to how it used to look:

All of that detail, lost! Unfortunately this is another classic example of an attraction getting a basic re-paint from a profesional painter rather than hiring a specialist themeing company. Sure they've done a good job of adding colour but it has lost the detail that originally made Wild Asia one of Merlin's best themed areas.

Of course there's still a chance they havn't finished. But it's not like this hasn't happened many times before.

Normally I would agree with Splash Landings being one of the best examples to compare it to, but after visiting last year and seeing the state of the land it really did look miserable. I get that the theme is old temples which are meant to look mouldy and run down, and somewhere like Animal Kingdom it can be pulled off and look effective. But at Chessington this looked tired and forgotten so I think the blocks of colour have really helped bring some life into the area.

I think the only areas which are missing detail is the paint work on the columns so hopefully that can be addressed before opening but in the worst case I still think it looks like a really good job.

I don’t know how to include the photo with this post. I have just seen a photograph on the Chessington Buzz Facebook page. The photo shows the front of Tomb Blaster. The rides sign now says Tomb Blaster Defeat the curse. Could mean that my knowledge of a Tomb Blaster refurbishment was partially correct? Admittedly the sign doesn’t mention Forbidden Tomb however the rides had its name lengthened. Rather than a full return of Forbidden Tomb I think we may be looking at a return of the old Forbidden Tomb but with hoards of new changes. In other words a new ride with many elements/nods to Forbidden Tomb. I suppose their is always the final month of the current season that Forbidden Tomb could return in. Alternatively there is next closed season. I can almost garuntee that a modern version of Forbidden Tomb will appear during the upcoming season or during next year’s closed season.

Anyway...

I'm liking the closed season work done at Chessington that I've seen online. There are some textures to the rocks and detailing to the paintwork, maybe not as intricate as originally but somehow looking cartoony which for me suits the place. It looks like there is a real effort at improving pure presentation across the park for no other reason than it looks better. Nothing to advertise, no new attraction, just good upkeep. It's been lacking for so long, hopefully it continues.
