I don't think what they've done to that obelisk looks half bad, considering. Kinda fits in with the Howard Carter theme they're going for.

Just a quick one about that. They cut the top off to see how strong the rest of it was. Then covered it up and secured it.

I would have thought they will start from scratch. If they bother at all, that is.

Stuff like that dodgy scaffolding suggests that most of these structures were not designed to last 26+ years anyway. I imagine when they built Chessington they were gambling on whether the public would receive a theme park well, and therefore did not want to spend huge amounts on hard wearing construction.

26 years is good enough, everything has served its purpose well but they must invest in better maintenance this time whilst rebuilding everything they removed.

Cutting the obelisk in half to test its strength is… unusual to say the least. Please replace it!

Not the easiest thing to check without cutting into it somewhere...

I can't believe they've had to go to these lengths, I'm sure Health and Safety deemed it necessary to rip down and rebuild, but surely annual maintenance must be cheaper?

Be fair, its an easy mistake to make.
