Chessington World of Adventures Resort

This looks vastly insufficient. Really disappointing to see the outdoor winding area called a lazy river and not a rapids.

I do like the look of the artists impression of the styling and theming though, if that comes to be accurate.

The whole thing screams being the minimum they think they can get away with doing rather than striving for excellence or brining anything new or exciting.

...to answer my own point about sufficiency, I imagine they are using their own hotel capacity as the deciding factor in what sort of capacity the water park requires. Rather than treating as a potential destination in its own right they'll be using it as an add on to increase multi night stays. That might make sense in the middle of nowhere (Alton), but makes none on the outskirts of London. A truly startling waste of potential.

The one thing this may be relying on is the ability to potentially expand in the future.

They may be starting small to take stock of the type of demand it gets and what type of market visits. Once they have an idea of that, they could move forward accordingly and possibly green light some expansions. It certainly looks as though the space is there for them to expand if need be.

If they see it as being an add-on to hotel stays and park visits (a la Cariba Creek), then the need for expansion may not be as great as if they see it as something that will attract guests in its own right. The type of appeal this gets will likely only be fully known when it opens.
 
ChessingtonBuzz are quoted as saying that the consultation is mainly for the building itself (and of course the exterior pool and lazy river). There probably is going to be more to the enclosed part than just a wave pool, interactive kid's area and two slides.
 
You wouldn't mind so much is this was a multiphase project from the outset, with this being year 1 with additions planned for years 2 &3 from the outset. This has really been a letdown of potential in my eyes.

Then why go to the bother of creating so much artwork showing the interior?

I'm pretty certain those artists impressions of the interior are pretty much what the final project will be.

If this was something I'd consider even medium sized I might be inclined to agree, but if it is built as currently described they will have no idea if it could function as a standalone destination as it patently isn't one so could never be used as proof of demand.
 
It's sad when you think how many expansions Rulantica has had in 2 years despite only opening 5 months before the pandemic compared to any water park in this country during their operating years. All I can think of are the extra slide towers that were added to the Sandcastle and Water World.
 
I expect the so called lazy river will actually be a Center Parcs style rapids. From what I can tell by the plans there’s a start and end, so not circular and therefore unlikely to be powered by pressured jets in the trough. It also appears to start at the mezzanine levels and end at the ground level. That sort of change in level and the rough length we can see is similar to those rapids style rides found across the Center Parcs and Rulantica pools.
 
I would assume much like Cariba Creek/Alton Towers Waterpark when it first opened, this has been designed to accommodate resort guests only. That to me is the only reasonable explanation for the size.

Much like Alton's waterpark, I can see this transitioning from resort-guest-only entry to being open to the general public after a few years.

If so, no thought or consideration for the future and very short-term thinking. How very Merlin!
 
Chessington Buzz have confirmed in a reply to a comment on their Facebook page that the images on the consultation are just a pitch for planning permissions (for the structure and not the internals) and are not final. They also mentioned that there are unlikely to be any bigger slides as it is aimed at younger guests.
