Coasters you've seen but not ridden

I know this topic is a little bit weird. But these are coasters that you've seen with your own two eyes, but not actually been on for some reason. And I don't mean coasters where you were in the park, and just chose not to ride it, like a Big Apple or whatever.

For me, these are the big ones I remember:

The Beast - Kings Island

When I flew to California in 2009, we had a connecting flight at Cincinnati. Knowing that Kings Island where somewhere around, I kept an eye out on the approach, knowing the chances of spotting it were very slim. Then I spotted what looked like a water park and then... is that... is that Diamondback?! "Oh my god, there's the Beast! The coaster I've most wanted to ride my whole life, laid out in front of me!" It looked from the air exactly as it does from Google Maps. The chances of being exactly on the right angle into the airport, and it being on my side of the plane, must have been a couple of hundred to one. One day I shall ride it. :D

Monster - Walygator Parc

Spotted when driving with John, Cheese and Islander to Europa earlier this year. We had no idea that the route would take us within a couple of miles of the park, and we'd be able to see Monster quite clearly from the highway! Heartbreaking tbh. :(

California Screamin' - California Adventure

Decided not to do this park, only do Disneyland, because at the time of visiting (2009) it really didn't feel worth the entrance price, given that I'd already been on TOT in Florida.

Kraken - SeaWorld Orlando

Was too young really for SeaWorld when I visited Florida in 2004 (I was 13), but we drove right past the park, on the highway you can see in this photo actually! Pretty cool for a coaster geek in embryo. I was to ride my first thrill B&M later on that holiday at IOA. :)

Desperado - Buffalo Bill's Resort & Casino

Was planning to ride this on the trip from LA to Las Vegas. Just as we parked and got to the ticket booth, the ride shut down due to lightning, and wasn't to reopen for several hours. If only I'd been literally 2 minutes earlier. :(

Interesting topic. Some I've seen but haven't been on include:

Indiana Jones (DLP): saw the ride in 2007 and 2012, Was planning to go on this when I visited earlier this year, but it was closed when I was there.

Big Dipper, Avalanche, Nick Streak and Blue Flyer (All Blackpool Pleasure Beach): Saw them but didn't ride them.

Looping Star(?*) (Margate): Saw this ride when I was just a little boy, but didn't ride it because I was a bit scared :(

*= Not sure if this is the coaster I remember.

All of the coasters you can see from outside Flamingo Land, Switchback at Gullivers Kingdom, The Beastie, Corkscrew, Indy at DLP (Was in rehab :( ) and that's about it :p

I don't generally get close to a park without entering it!

It would have been May/June last year. According to a member of staff it had only gone into rehab three days earlier! Annoying really, as aside from Space Mountain it was one of the few things I really wanted to do :p

I don't think I've got a wealth of these to choose from, but there are a couple:

Scorpion - Busch Gardens Tampa

Walked past it...on the way to Kumba...then walked past it again on the way back but unfortunately the weather was closing in and the draw of SheiKra was too much. The lightning came in after my first ride on SheiKra and that was it for the day. It'll probably be gone by the next time I go as well - such a classic old Schwarzkopf as well! :)

Gwazi - Busch Gardens Tampa

Didn't get on it for the same reasons as above. Although I didn't ride it, I'm pretty sure that one side wasn't operating and the other side was broken down for a lot of the day anyway. I don't exactly regret not getting on it anyway, reviews haven't been particularly favourable in terms of its ride comfort. And I'll be riding Stampida next year at PA, so I'll experience it regardless ;)

Knightmare - Camelot

Went once after 2007, but unfortunately it wasn't operating! Massive disappointment because it looked like a great coaster, and it's now most likely gone for good :(

Sorry for the double post, but just out of interest - why does everyone's RCDB pictures always have the orange tags around them except mine? :p

So many coasters! So much regret!

These are just off the top of my head. I thought I'd split them into categories:

Too young:

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
Roar
Kong
Boomerang

California's Great America
Top Gun (now Flight Deck)
Vortex
Grizzly
Invertigo
Demon

Too Scared:

Terra Mitica
Tizona, don't regret that one too much to be honest.

Drove Past but didn't stop

Heide Park
Colossos (couldn't see anything else)

Hansa Park
Fluch von Novgorod
Nessie

Camelot
Gauntlet

Park Closed

Grona Lund
Jetline
Kvasten
Insane

Just never ridden

Blackpool
Nick Streak
Blue Flyer

Flamingoland
All of the kiddie coasters

Sorry if that's too in-depth. There's just no other way of expressing my eternal anguish for missed credits.

Interesting. I visited this year in June and it was in rehab, perhaps that what it likes to do every May/ June huh? =P

I was a bit annoyed as well, because it was the only thrill ride I didn't do from my 2007 visit =P

Oooh good topic!

I've seen Monster at Walygator earlier this year when we were driving to Strasbourg. It was pure chance that we saw it, we were joking saying "there's Monster", then we looked the other way and there it was!

I've also seen the two Vekoma's at Fantasy Island without riding them, as I didn't like big coasters back then.

Then I've seen Hollywood Rip Ride Fail. I've queued a decent amount of time for it. I've however never ridden it, as it is fail and broke down.

That's all I can think of at the top of my head. I don't think there are any more.

:)

Oh hang on, it would be this year! Derp! It's not 2013 yet :p #wishfulthinking

El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure as it had broken down. :(

I hope to sort that out next year

Stunt Fall at Parque Warner.
Xpress at Walibi Holland.
Turbine at Walibi Belgium.
Cobra at Walibi Belgium.

All the kiddie coasters apart from the new suspended one at Flamingo Land, Knightmare at Camelot, Nemesis Inferno, X:\ No Way Out and Blue Flyer at the Pleasure Beach.

Good topic, surprised we haven't seen it before.

I have two parks which immediately come to mind. First is Port Aventura in which I missed Dragon Khan, Stampida and most of their other major attractions due to strong winds forcing them all to close
Dragon Khan was a particular blow as not only was I rely looking forward to it but a very nice member of staff allowed me to walk right into the station just to see the trains sitting there dormant.

I also missed Tami-Tami but only because the queue was too long as a result of all the other rides closing. All in all it would have been a disaster of a trip had the shows not been great fun and Furius Baco being open so I still could claim to have ridden Europe's fastest.

Then there’s Camelot. I've seen it twice on the way to and from Blackpool, on one occasion even stopping at the service station right next to the park. But as Blackpool is already a two part journey for us (first to relatives in Wolverhampton then onto Blackpool) Camelot was just too small a park for us to burn an extra day on. Plus I thought I'd save it for a TS North meet but I guess there's no chance of that now :(

I also missed Troublesome Trucks at Drayton Manor which despite being a kid’s ride I really did want to ride it. Only the last time I visited was as part of my University fresher’s week and the people I was with weren't especially keen.

Bonus: Höllenblitz

Not technically meant to be on this list as I haven't seen it in person but my parents did and I only just missed out on it. They found Höllenblitz at a fair in Stuttgart (Germany) on the opposite bank to one of the spa's they were visiting. I knew it immediately after seeing their photos as it was a ride I'd been looking out for ever since Diogo mentioned that:

If you are ever within 50 miles of this coaster, you have no excuse not to make the detour for it!
As it happens I was set to go to Stuttgart myself only a few months later as part of this year’s German trip. So while I was in the area I went to check it out but alas there was nothing but a concrete slab left, the fair had moved on.

All the above plus Jubilee Odyssey and Millenium coaster (park was closed).

All the ones at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Calfornia Screamin' (they were still constructing it when I went to DLC in June/July 2000). We drove Past Six Flags on our drive to Anaheim, L.A. and San Diego to do Disney and Sea World.

There is a few but the main ones that I want to go on are wild mouse at BPB and saw the ride which I saw been built and haven't been back since

Kraken at sea world Orlando, to small.

Rock n rollercoaster at Orlando, I wanted to go on it but my sister chickened out and I didn't want to go alone (was quite young) only chance to go on it later on was straight after lunch/dinner and I didn't want to throw up!

Sent from my phone using Tapatalk, please excuse any ridiculous mistakes!

Desperado, Buffalo Bill's Resort & Casino, for me also. Took a specific route (additional 1.5 hours) from somewhere to Vegas to ride it, only to find it was only operating on certain days. It was not one of those days. BF not impressed!!

Kingda Ka, Six Flags Great Adventure - CLOSED on my visit (in fact was closed for most of that summer). Thankfully has been on Top Thrill Dragster a few days earlier, but my friend had bottled out due to lapbars, and she was going to ride KK :(

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom - drove past this park heading out of San Francisco once. Their B&M looked fun.
