In terms of China not reporting their real death figures; how about the UK only reporting hospital death numbers when there'll be plenty more dying outside of them?

Think we should be concerned about our own house needing to be in order before moaning about other countries being fibs. It's not like we had warning signs with Italy and Spain either.

Care home about a mile away from my house has reported 24 deaths in the past 24 hours. I genuinely think the amount of deaths is at least 50% higher than is being reported because we're only reporting hospital deaths.

I was saying to my parents over dinner that it wouldn't surprise me if in some care homes, all the residents die from COVID-19, which is an incredibly tragic thing to say, but it's sadly a realistic possibility.
Not helped by the attitude some GPs show some of my fellow autistics that prompted this letter....

Getting paid to sit on their bottoms in the house

I wish i could do that. However i have to locked and unlock a college for vulnerable students to get restbite from home.

I will not discuss any thing here. Lets just say some situation are heartbreaking.

I’m sure I read/heard that deaths outside hospital do feed into the nations death rate.
It just takes a lot longer for them to get the figures

Yes, this is exactly right.

There is a perfectly legitimate reason for it too, the insinuation in the press that it is some sort cover up of figures is based on a lack of understanding.

In hospital you die, the Dr signs your death certificate stating the cause of death and you would have been tested for covid before dying. You are an instant statistic.

At home, care home or otherwise, you die, the paramedics confirm your death but are not qualified to determine the cause of death. The police come and prepare a file for the coroner, the body is taken to the mortuary, the coroner reviews the file and decides whether they want a postmortem or not. At the moment that process will include covid testing. Once they have a everything they want they determine the cause of death and issue a death certificate. At that point, often weeks later, you become a static.

There are exceptions in both scenarios, but in very nearly every case that will be the process and there's not much that can be done to change that timeline.

Who would have thought the UK population would be so compliant

Who would have thought the UK has so many unscrupulous bosses you mean.
Why pay staff when you can get the government to do it?

I work in the food supply chain so have been lucky as I’m still being paid even though work is quieter for now and have managed to work from home, May and June will now be flat out and regardless of what the government say regarding lockdown it will be 70+ hour weeks for a solid 8 weeks away from home probably in a hired motor home as hotels are shut, that’s life, where there’s a will there’s a way.

Those I really feel sorry for in all this and the ones who should be getting the discounts at the supermarkets are the ones who have lost there jobs, yes the key workers are helping to keep the county running but they are also still getting paid.

Unfortunately the most needed businesses seeing us through this pandemic are pretty much the worst paid.
Especially people going out each day and serving customers at supermarkets.

But its ok though the people higher up are isolating in their Ivory towers.

Daren has taken my thoughts exactly

Moving on

Getting tired of hearing “we need more stringent lockdown “
We need to be locked down till at least September
All this coming from those sat on their ass at home getting government money to do so  thinking it’s a holiday at home
The rest of us having to go out and work. Face the world. Generate tax to pay them to have their holiday
Put food in their online shopping baskets
Keeping everything running

High-street fashion chains Oasis and Warehouse have collapsed into administration, affecting 2,000 workers across 92 branches and 437 concessions.
I guess the government support didnt help
lockdown needs to start being lifted soon or there will be nothing left to go back to

many retailers were struggling anyway. Laura Ashley went recently and that wasn’t due to Covid. Debenhams has gone into administration several times so again wouldn’t be a surprise.
Internet shopping killed some shops off but also the rise of Primark, Boohoo and other lower priced places.
I also expect after lockdown many people will realise they were buying too much they don’t need so could make it even tougher for retailers.

Maybe we do have too much focus on shopping as a leisure activity and there are just businesses that aren’t sustainable anyway.

My partner she works in a specialist care home during all this, she has worked more hours then she’s legally aloud, due to low staff at the moment she has no choice but to keep working everyday. She hasn’t been home in over 4 weeks due to working away, I honestly worry like hell for her tho her home isn’t partially for older people it’s still a lot for her but during this crisis we both have to respect this is the way of life at the moment.

the ONS say that 91% of those that died had pre-existing health conditions
Now, while I 100% agree we should be protecting these people.
is keeping 90% of the healthy UK population with no pre-existing health conditions confined to their homes and shutting everything down the wayo_O
These people are already isolating themselves from everyone
