Boris Johnson has come out and said that he will not be repeating austerity in order to pay for the COVID crisis, so I’d suggest we’ll be OK on the quality of life front.

In fact, a lot of his economic agenda for the recovery, unveiled over the summer, seemed to centre around building new things, improving things and “levelling up” the UK, so I’d maybe guess that once COVID has been dealt with, life will improve somewhat due to Boris’ funding meaning that our schools, roads and general infrastructure will increase in quality!
 
Income tax, National Insurance and VAT are all going to increase, considerably, probably in this years budget.
Then corporation tax and inheritance tax, either this year or next.
Unemployment will increase rapidly come the end of the year as state job support ends.
Boris has told lots of lies in the past, and continues to do so.
The "V" shaped recession looks increasingly unlikely, as does a quick release of an effective vaccine.
Levelling up?
Every man for himself, and stuff the sick, old and poor.
 
It'll make little difference now anyway. HS2 is a drop in the ocean compared to what we've got ourselves into. We're beyond screwed. May as well just build 50 new prisons as well because we're going to need them by the looks of it.
 
He has no credibility left, austerity will be hammered home by the Treasury, Boris will shrug and give a watermelon smile.
And then there is Brexit.
Going to be a fun new year.
Stocking up on coal, bog rolls and candles already.

When will you learn that what Boris promise and what you get are two different things. His oven baked ready Brexit deal has turned out to be half baked and he doesn't even like the ingredients. He is someone that tells people what they want to hear and go and do his own thing anyway. It is well known that Boris is economic with the truth. He can't be trusted with what he say's or promises :rolleyes:

The bottom line is, this country is well and truly screwed.
 
We are are close to living in very troubled times to come, honestly 2020 has just been a headmasher I still can’t make out what the he’ll is going on anymore. Social media has been the worst enemy since the pandemic started and just gives a platform for people to spread click bait false news. And don’t start on the political side of things ah jaysus I’ve stayed well away from that but I saw the best comment on social media “so if we break any sort of international law/gfa we risk losing trade deals with USA and eu and possibly peace in NI depending on the solution, but ah well least we get our bendy bananas back rule Britannia innit”
 
All this doom and gloom!

I have been a working adult since the mid 80's, I have seen labour, tory and coalition governments, from Thatcher to Boris, through so called boom times and recessions, and I can honestly say that none of it has really made much of a difference to my life.

We only stopped paying for world war 2 at the end of 2006 so paying for covid won't be any worse.

Smile people :) - Enjoy life and let whoever is running the country just get on with it - because whichever party is in charge it really won't make a lot of difference.
 
Makes a massive difference when those in charge are driving the country off a cliff with 3 wheels and a cut brake line though.

There are a great number of people who are affected by those in charge. To be idle because "it doesn't affect me" is pretty much half the problem with the country (that and a worrying development of far right beliefs becoming far more vocal).

Not that I like to argue with tykes...much, but I think we are on our way to hell in a handcart.
Boris is the biggest idiot we have ever had as a PM in our lifetimes.
Other non European countries are already distancing themselves because of the idiots willingness to break international law.
I remember the winter of discontent, power cuts and the three day week, but all the previous difficulties were temporary and manageable, this recession is becoming a bigger issue due to the combination of covid, brexit, world instability through problems with the east...Russia and China, and climate change.
Can you remember 15% inflation rates and 17% mortgage rates?
Keep smiling when income tax, VAT and other forms of tax shoot up, unemployment triples and the exit from Europe causes disposable incomes to be drastically cut.

I remember those oil lamps @rob666 . We had a big orange one in the living room which was used on plenty of occasions.

We will just have to see how it all pans out - but I am more concerned about my impending divorce! - That will have a far greater financial impact on my life than who is running the country ! - I am probably working till I am about 75 I reckon :(

Still don't think changes in government make a major difference to most people, certainly not in the last 30 years anyway. But I suppose Brexit, Covid and Boris is a whole new ball game.

Will I be voting next time ? - Probably not, as I honestly don't feel strongly enough in favour of any party.

EDIT - Yorkshire v Lancashire in the T20 tonight @rob666 - thats much more important :)

Government say a second lockdown would be disastrous and they are right tbh! The economy would die if another nationwide lockdown happened but Birmingham (my city) have gone into a local lockdown and most people are sticking to the rules now I'm pleased to say!

Went to a service station earlier this week for an emergency wee(posh) Nice to see the said place had employed a member of staff to give masks to ppl that were trying to come in without one. Everyone entering was also advised to sanitize their hands as they walked past it.

Unfortunately lots of ppl never did. Which is really the whole issue with spreading. Some ppl will follow the rules and not cause a 2nd lockdown and some ppl really don’t give a monkeys.
