If the worst hit category aren't safe with three doses then confidence in the vaccine programme will hit an all time low and will totally erode away.
No matter how ineffective the vaccines may get against COVID, you can surely bet that we’d be in a far worse situation without them.

Yes, the vaccines may be weakening under the two-dose regimen, but the third dose is very effective indeed at stopping COVID; with Omicron, 3 doses is as effective as 2 doses was with the original variant.

Also, if the 3 doses is insufficient, couldn’t they offer a 4th dose? Or alter the vaccine to specifically target Omicron?

Even if 3 doses of the current vaccine doesn’t work as hoped, the vaccines would still have an effect, and there are plenty of tricks the vaccine rollout could potentially employ if things go really badly.

In other news, the BBC are reporting that the Covid vaccine booking site is down and that lateral flow tests that can be sent to your home have ran out. Maybe Johnson should have ensured that the fundementals of his new plan could actually cope with surge demand before making his annoucement last night.

Hopefully both short term issues, glad I've still got 6 LFTs left in my current pack.

I tried collecting LFTs in person last week and three pharmacies were all out of stock, but I got some online.

I didn't watch Boris, but I've read the daily testing is if you have been in contact with someone with covid? Otherwise it is just test before going somewhere still isn't it?
I've been working in the office twice a week and doing a LFT before that and also before going to parties and things.

I did wonder about LFT's - there were only ever going to be a finite number that could be given out for free. The issuing of them was already starting to be ramped down, with the necessity to get a free code from the NHS website to pick them up now, rather than just simply being able to pick up without a code. That was clearly in preparation for, presumably next year, charges being brought in, as of course the NHS can't continue to provide them for free, forever.

I've been able to collect them for free from my employer for the past 6-ish months, and right now they're heavily encouraging us to continue testing twice weekly. But they have around six boxes of 50 7-test packs left, and as a business cannot obtain any more, so once that runs out, not quite sure how our 1,000+ strong workforce can get tests.

I would assume the business would have to purchase them, instead of getting from the NHS.

As you say the NHS can't pay for them forever.

Sort of seems sensible for people to get enough to test around once a week (so a box of seven every two months) on the NHS for socialising and then once/twice a week paid by their employer as a ore long term thing.

I work for a university and we have spit PCR tests available, but that of course is results 12-24 hours later so you might go into the office, drop off the test and find out next day you were positive and therefore potentially infected colleagues. But better than no testing at all of course and potentially more accurate than LFT.

They've been handing the packs of LFT's out in the foyer of my local Tesco for months now (strangely not today). I've accumulated around 6-7 full packs. Most people were rejecting them when offered. All they asked for was your postcode, and half the time they didn't even do that. It was like they couldn't wait to get rid of them, so I tried my best to help them out when I didn't have my hands full ;)

and if testing twice a week seven packs is almost six months worth for one person

When second lot of testing was active at work. They changed tests so i had a box of 25 innova tests.
After 3 weeks of being told i need to do daily testing, i am down to 8.

I mean that’s just ludicrous and wasteful lol

Indeed, a complete waste and what did it achieve? We do daily testing at work now (half the week is monitored, half at home), which seems to be a common thing in my industry. Although no testing for me for a few months now!

I think this is ridiculous, how did the government not notice there stock was getting low? If they did why didn't they put a few weeks of temporary restrictions on who can have them in place until they'd got enough tests? It's just so frustrating.

Something tells me Boris hasn't quite heard of the phrase 'Engage brain before opening mouth" before. Says things like the booster program being...well, boosted, but seemingly doesn't take the practicalities into account.

The 2 mass vaccination centres in shropshire where closed down a while back.
