Disneyland Paris: General Discussion

But the main queue is longer! I think it makes you feel better about your queueing experience and perhaps provides a better feeling of equality among guests, but the ride still shifts 1000 people per hour, whether that's a 950/50 split or 600/400 split.

Depends how the queue is managed, I guess.

EP recognise that they need those 1000 people in the main queue to keep the park safe on super-peak days. Thorpe tried to go to the complete opposite end of the scale a couple of years ago with their queue-less park idea, obviously it was a total disaster as when you kick everyone out of the coaster queues they have to then go somewhere else, and Thorpe is bad enough on busy days as it is. They need MORE people in their coaster queues, not fewer, and reduced fastrack is the quickest way of achieving that as people will still be willing to wait the same queue time even if there are more people in front of them.

I agree - almost entirely, that said - the industry is recognising that people want things now and I think are trying to find the balance and to make things work with queueing solutions & overall capacity vs. the cost of delivering enough capacity on peak days and finding a way to staff/maintain it on quiet days.

May I add, @Rick, that whilst any ride will churn through the same amount of people regardless of if there’s fastpass or not, the people that would be in said fastpass queue would arrive in the main queue in a staggered fashion (naturally some before you and some after). Whereas with fastpass, everyone jumps directly in front of you throughout your entire queueing experience regardless, until you reach the front.

You're deliberately confusing this issue I think.

If a person is able to get onto four different rides in an hour using their queue jump ticket then they are making the queue for four different rides longer.

If they are forced to join the main queue, and that is an hour long, then they are now only making the queue for that one ride longer. Therefore the queues for the three other rides that they would have got on in that hour are now shorter than they would have been.

Acting as though the people using fastpass would "just be in the main queue anyway" is wildly inaccurate.

@D4n @Burbs Apologies, I was referring to the scenario at DLP with 15 Euros per person per ride, not an unlimited style Fastrack like we have seen at other parks closer to home, the mechanics of that style are inherently different (but often wildly over stated!).

I don't want DLP to end up being the "plan your entire trip in advance" way as Florida has seemingly ended up, which is no doubt the end game of this (especially once the Magic Bands inevitably turn up)...

I don't think we'll ever see Magic Bands at a Disney park again, however I am sure than an updated ticketing system is imminent (probably similar to Disneyland's).

Walt Disney World is such an impressive complex and things work well once you are there. But I too am not keen on the whole you must plan everything in adavance of your trip to be able to make the most of it.

:)

Phantom Manor update:

It what will come as no shock to anybody whatsoever, the re-opening of PM will now not be this Halloween but now most likely January 2019.

They do a great job of their attractions and attraction makeovers too but they don't half take a long time to do it.

The re-opening date for January has been announced since June...

It looks like Phantom Manor is getting fast pass:

Enjoy your longer queues!

:)

This was under trial earlier this year, guess termed a success?

Be more worried about the paid Fastpass structure that seems to be on it's way into the place over that...

Paid fast pass for Disney would be ridiculous. It works at smaller parks who have much smaller entrance fees. Costs a fortune already to go to Disney. Asking guests to then pay more for fast pass is such a bad idea.

It's only a bad idea when there will be no guests who pay for it. Otherwise it's a great idea to earn more money.

I suppose from a business perspective it's a good idea if people pay for it AND it doesn't have any significant impact on the park's visitor numbers. If people pay for it, but the visitor numbers decline or the hotel occupancy goes down, then it might not be such a good idea.

Historically Disney fans have been very loyal to the brand and have been undeterred by commercial decisions that aren't in the guest's interests, so long as the guests are still happy with the quality of the actual attractions themselves and the sense of show, maintenance etc. There certainly is a lot of love for Disney, Walt, Mickey and the values they stood for, the Disney music, the maintenance and 'day one' presentation, the fireworks shows, the parades, the state of the art audio animatronics etc. There's a lot to love about Disney, but charging guests to skip the queues does go against the philosophy that 'everyone's a VIP'.

Efteling's been advertising quite a bit recently and a few friends who aren't typical enthusiasts have asked me whether they should consider going there instead of Disney. None of them have yet, but if they do it'll be interesting to see how they think it compares and whether they see it as a genuine alternative. Quite a few Brits do go to Port Aventura. Personally I think Europa Park would be my top tip to people looking for an alternative to Disney. I do still love Disneyland though and Disneyland Paris remains a very fine theme park.

Have you seen how much money people spend at Disney? Paid Fast Pass will be hugely popular there unfortunately.

I'm actually shocked they've waited this long and still not implemented it. However I tend to agree it's a bit inevitable isn't it?

I do think they will be hit by a massive backlash with it at first though when it does come in. The system right now is great. Bringing in a Hierarchy into Disney just seems wrong to me. Ruins the 'magic'.

Must point out that I think the current system will still be in place (i.e. free) but will have a tiered system in the background for those who literally cannot wait...

I'm more dreading Fastpass+ coming in...

Really interesting article here that I found on designing and building Pirates of the Caribbean. Offers some interesting pictures midway through the construction of the ride, that I am sure some dark ride fans here will enjoy!

It was interesting to read that a lot of the sets and set pieces were built here in the UK.

Anyway, enjoy....
