Disneyland Paris: General Discussion

Disney have had this coming for years and they only get worse.

They seem to be ploughing money into Disney plus and neglecting everything else. They have closed 95% of their retail stores and the theme parks become a lot less magical every single year that passes.

We won't be rushing back to any of their parks anytime soon.

Was going to say all this but you ninja'd me there. But yeah, since Covid, Disney have been having one bad moment to another from their films, shows and theme parks alike while trying to find excuses to blame everyone other than themselves. Quite amazed to see how fast the decline has been in just three years though you could say it has happened much sooner than that.

Shutting the stores just seemed an absolutely bone headed move, not everyone can afford to visit the parks. So it was nice as a kid to have a bit of Disney Magic (TM) on the high street. Going to just having an online store surely reduces the brand recognition and loyalty having the shops gains them.

I guess that maybe the stores just weren’t making that much of a profit to justify their existence. But my kids always did enjoy having a look in the Disney Store when we went to the shopping centre and I think it served as a pretty good advertisement for whatever new movies and shows were coming out as you’d see the merchandise prominently displayed there. There is still a Disney Store in Dublin but it’s a pity that the UK ones went, especially the large flagship store in the west end.

Hopefully the level of industrial action is reaching the point now where they can’t ignore it any longer. It’s now beginning to have a serious impact on the guest experience.

Wholly on the side of the workforce here. They’ve been underpaid for too long, and you only need to see the level of turnout to appreciate its not a minority feeling that way. I do feel for any guests though who’ve paid hundreds of euros to be at the park and been met with this. The management won’t be able to continue turning a blind eye to things now it’s come to this point (even if they do try cranking the music volume up to try and drown out the chants!).

It’s all the more difficult to justify the situation when on the earnings report and calls you hear DLP having its praises sung for maximising it’s profit (so much so that DLP and Hong Kong Disneyland both helped offset the shortfalls at WDW last quarter). The company makes more money but the workforce go unrewarded. It’s a volatile situation that looks to have reached boiling point.

The London Disney Store is still going on Oxford Street. In Europe Disney now only have London, Paris and Dublin. Even in the USA they are down to a handful of stores, mainly in outlet malls plus the New York flagship. Those capital city flagship stores are about brand promotion more than just shopping.

But its the way shopping was going in general, more people are shopping online and in-person stores are closing. Gap also closed all UK stores and some other brands have been downsizing. I don't think shopping is as much of a leisure activity anymore.

The strikes continue, and I have to say, this is probably the best placard I’ve ever seen at a strike 😂

Yep, this is why the French are the best at strike action as they are creative with it...too bad our strikers over here have nowhere near the same amount of creativity as they do.

The closure of the Disney store in Hanley is directly correlated with the town's decline. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

I know it's a stereotype, but oh boy, do the French know how to strike!

I think shame that DLP management/the Disney company is not addressing this and allowing it to affect guests. I commed the staff striking however.

A ‘Just Stop Oil’ parade coming to Thorpe Park soon, anyone?

Just far right Disney sticking two fingers up at the workers...
Again.
"We will do things at our pace, you workers must know your place..."
Given their recent identity politics in recent products, I'd say they were on the left but hey, they could be hypocrites deep down.

Juggling with the optics...
Used to have a whole different (boozy) meaning to my generation.
"Disney" as a corporation is a teeny little bit towards the right.

Such a shame for everyone involved. I hope everyone at the park yesterday gets some sort of refund (Parades and End of night show being cancelled), and Disney take action sooner than later.

I dont really know much about the action taking place, but is it just one section of the cast members that are striking? Clearly there is enough cast members not striking to keep the park open.
