Djurs Sommerland: General Discussion

Re: Djurs Sommerland 2013: unknown, coaster?

From Screamscape:

Apparently there's a rumour going around that this might be closer to Jet Rescue:

As much as I think Jet Rescue is a fantastic looking family launch coaster, I hope this isn't what they're going for. A blitz or Jet Rescue style coaster (albeit, a bit bigger)? Is that even worth considering? :p

Re: Djurs Sommerland 2013: unknown, coaster?

If this is a Jet Rescue-style mid-sized family coaster, it'll be a massive disappointment given how much the park and the rumour sites have hyped this thing up. :(

Re: Djurs Sommerland 2013: unknown, coaster?

There is no way* this will be a Family Launch coaster, on three observations:

1 - The number and size of the footers. They are far too thick/large/big to be for supporting light bi-rail track a la JR; they're clearly made for heavier tri- or quad-rail track. The close spacing of them suggests a classic accelerator or Blitz launch track. Couldn't find that many good reference pictures on RCDB but these examples should lend weight to this theory:

Those are clearly the two biggest examples but from what I remember of iSpeed's launch track it has a similar distribution of big footers.

2 - The length of the (inferred) launch track. Assuming that is a launch track, it's far longer than that of a JR-style coaster and a similar length to other accelerators/Blitzs. The below picture demonstrates JR's launch track is about a half a metre long:

a848cb001c5ldcsfdk5hfk.jpg

3 - There are two almost parallel lines of footers - you can see on the above construction photo that they diverge slightly, which matches what the majority of accelerators with a top hat do - just look at the construction photo of Kingda Ka above. At a guess then, this coaster will begin with a standard top hat near Thor's Hammer. I would have said the straight footers on the return leg (whichever side is the launch section) will be the return brake run (again many big footers spaced close together in a straight line), but as this will be the longest coaster in Denmark that can't be true. Speaking of the length record - surely that rules out a JR-style launcher too?

I'm hoping for a Blitz (as always).

*Not necessarily true.

Re: Djurs Sommerland 2013: unknown, coaster?

Rupert is correct.

I can't add any more than he has but the footers we can see do not match the small slalom style layout of Jet Rescue. A Top Hat also seems likely although I predict it won't be that big due to the spacing between the footers. Think Kanonen rather than Stealth.

But that's not what's interesting me the most. Does anyone have any idea what that concrete trough is? It'll either be part of the station, something unrelated to the track or a splash down... that'd be very interesting.

Re: Djurs Sommerland 2013: unknown, coaster?

I do hope it's a Blitz like you say, Rupert. Something like Jet Rescue isn't really much to shout about, but something like iSpeed definitely would be!

Anyway, this is what Screamscape wrote the other day:

Rumor has it that this will be a launched coaster of some kind, with a picture of the construction site showing off what appears to be two separate possible launch sections. There is also a rumor that this could possible be something similar in nature to the Jet Rescue (Jet Ski themed) launched coaster in Australia, but that is unconfirmed at this point. The official announcement will be made in December.

We'll find out what this thing is soon enough anyway. :)

Edit: Found some more stuff... :p

Source.

People on Coasterforce are suggesting regular two tube track from looking at the footers and someone posted this image of Cheetah Hunt's zig-zag section from RCDB:

And here's an image of how someone thinks part of this coaster will look:

Looks like two separate launches to me. What do you guys make of this?

Not sure what to make of this! Footers all over the place! Definitely suggests an iSpeedian spaghetti bowl of criss-crossing track though...

iSpeedian spaghetti bowl
What an incredible-sounding track element! But it could really just be a single helix (at least at the bottom left) where the supports use two footers, one for the brace like so:

There appears to be a ludicrous S-bend type thing cutting across it though, and all iSpeedian spaghetti hell breaks loose in the bottom right.

In other news, all the photos from the first page of this topic have been reproduced on the second page.

Re: Djurs Sommerland 2013: unknown, coaster?

Sorry for the double post but...

"Thursday, 29. november at 12 noon we will publish Denmark's largest news 2013. Are you ready? :)"

What's 12 noon Danish time in British time? :-\

* Resist urge to post "let me Google that for you" * but it didn't come out as the first answer

I believe they are an hour ahead of us, so 11am.

If they are an hour ahead how is it 1pm British Time?

Yep, I just made the most basic mathematical error humanly possible.

Of course it's 11am :-[

"Remember: Thursday kl. 12 we will publish Denmark's largest news 2013!

Here's just a taste. What can it be?"

Racing themed coaster? :-\

Re: Djurs Sommerland 2013: unknown, coaster?

Could we be seeing yet another racing-themed Intamin, along the lines of Stealth, Xcelerator and Rita...?

"Jubii!! Now we publish DENMARK'S LARGEST NEWS 2013-JEWEL!

Jewel is Denmark's longest roller coaster and Europe's only double launch coaster! You will be shot by place the entire 2 times at the hottest ATV'ere with up to 85 km/t. Press like if you welcome you to try Jewel:)

Try the first trip here: Juvelen - Djurs Sommerland (Translated by Bing)"

Bleh. Can't pretend I'm not a little bit disappointed. I was genuinely hoping for a multi-looping Intamin LSM! This is a bit... boring. Hopefully the theming will be nice...

Haha, no idea how I missed that! :p

Well I guess this confirms that it's a double launch and not the top hat element that a few suggested. I think it still looks like a fun ride though; a sort of cross between the style and intensity of Jet Rescue and Rita. The theming will make a big difference though, so I hope they have the money to make it look nice!

I'm going to have to adjurn my excitement for this one. I really really wanted an iSpeed clone but I guess I'll have to cope(nhagen). Denmark me down as unimpressed. :(

Oh.. oh dear.

"Damp squib"

I'm sure it'll be enjoyable to some extent :).
