My main problem with Moffat is that I get the sense he'd rather write Sherlock style film length episodes. Since Sherlock began every episode he's written has contained way to much plot for 45 minutes. This was fine for Saturdays extended episode which I really enjoyed but it does concern me that he'll keep trying to cram too much in this series.
Plus the story arcs could do with going back to being more subtle. The reason it worked back in series one was that we didn't even realise there was an arc until near the end. Obvious it would be impossible to recreate that again as people are on the look out for arcs but it can be kept out of each episodes main plot.
That aside Moffat did create some of the best episodes before he became head writer so he definitely can write a great reasonably paced plot.
