Doctor Who

what you got to remember is that RTD brought the series back at a time when the bbc was split over weather he should bring it back. He did have some very good stories gas mask/end of first and second series.he brought the daleks and cybermen back and used them well. He went for the big exit and it failed.

moffatt started well. He has brought some meh stories. He turned amy whiny, he let gaiman do an awful cyberman story. Although i will say i did enjoy his series better when watched on dvd.

he has also got the bbc full backing which RTD never had. I just think that they need tone it down and stop going for an American market. You've got it now, tone it down.
 
I'm loving the new doctor, certainly a contender for my favourite.

I'm also enjoying the cheesier moments, especially the duct scene in the dalek episode! Doctor Who is supposed to be cheesy, goofy and kitschy, it had definitely been getting a bit too serious for me!
 
Everything was fine. Except the dalek antibodies. Im sure that was high on Davros design. Liked the way he sacrificed people. That's better from moffat.

Although why did he redesign the daleks. and still use the older ones. Why? Surely they could be used aswell as the old ones. Unless we are heading for a 7th style Imperial/renegade dalek factions. Return of Davros??????
 
Moffat wrote The Girl in The Fireplace which was fantastic, Blink which is generally considered the scariest episode ever written and The Empty Child/Doctor Dances which in my opinion are the best two episodes of Doctor Who. He has it in him. But like Tim, I feel Sherlock has caused him to lose his grip on the world of Who.
 
I've returned to Doctor Who (Got put off in the Tennant times). Into The Dalek was really quite good :)
 
it was basic, dark and tense. What we've needed for a while. Glad we didn't actually have a monster. Just psychological demons. Hopefully a sign of things to come. Capaldi is brilliant. As wad Jenna.
 
I really, really liked 'Listen'. It was scary without being terrifying and didn't rely on cheap jumps scares, just good old fashioned paranoia!

Capaldi is fast becoming my favourite Doctor. He's silly without being slapstick, he's caring without being soft and he's clever and witty without constantly being surprised by it. I love the new darker direction this series is going, it's like they know they have the family audience so know they can do serious stories.

I haven't enjoyed a Doctor Who series this much as in a very long time, and to think I was just about to give up on the show for good!

Plots with just enough complexity to be intriguing but not followable, so far not breaking the rules of the Doctor Who universe, the Doctor being a genuinely multi-faceted character and not a 2D cartoon who only displays depth when the script-writers have time to fill, and attempts to write in bigger more mature themes under the surface, have all lead to an engaging show, something Doctor Who hasn't been since Eccleston's series.

Even the goofy bits like Robin Hood and a T-Rex in London have been made bearable counter, balanced by well written character dialogue.

So far, this series - Thumbs up from me.
 
I actually kinda liked the Robin Hood bits. They showed the Doctor to be very childish and petty when people don't respect him as much as he thinks he deserves.
 
I agree, the dialogue and interaction is what saved it, but I think the idea of there being an actually existing Robin Hood is a bit goofy, especially one which is exactly like the Hood we know in the stories, if they made him a less polished and gleaming a depiction, I think it would have worked a bit better.
 
I disliked the Robin Hood episode from start to finish. It's the filler 'fun' episode of this series. Personally it felt like a forced episode that echos Doctor Who from 2006-2013, a new dark series in 2014 trying to squeeze in a cheesy episode to just say 'yes, this is the same show you had with David Tennant and Matt Smith'.

Thankfully 'Listen' is a true representation of the 'dark' direction they are taking the show this year and beyond. Best episode so far for me.
 
'Listen' was fantastic! Really got into the episode and that blanket thing is still freaking me out. Not been that scared and worried since probably the empty child episode. It was like wanting to hide behind the sofa from the daleks like my Dad says haha!

I do really like Capaldi. He kinda reminds me of Eccleston, who so far is my favourite doctor, and I love the relatinship between him and Clara, especially his cute reaction when she hugs him:p

Oh, and I think the blanket thing could make an excellent yet slghtly cruel little prank after watching the episode in the dark haha:p
 
What I really like about Capaldi thus far is the excitable childish traits he displays at the start of each episode, insisting on dragging Clara off on an exciting discovery he's made. It makes him an all round character when paired with his desirable and well timed dark personality but without being too 'in your face' with the childish antics akin to his predecessor.

Moreover, I think the writing has improved to an extent. It now feels like we're actually being taken on an adventure with them and a part of the experience rather than watching a clown dance about on the screen and not being able to consider yourself a part of that.

This Doctor's intellect is lower than I would have hoped :-/

Good episode though. Not, for me, the stand-out, incredible, series-beating episode that most seem to have seen it as, but solid.
 
How does that call in to question the intellect of The Doctor...?

Because there are animals which have evolved to camouflage?
 
Don't take it too seriously MP ;). 'Twas just a sentence that annoyed me greatly at being so untrue.
 
Yeah that sentence kind of bugged me as well given that no creatures are not perfect but always adapting and some are very good at hiding, but a minor point :p

Odd that you say that because my Dad really liked this episode (and the others like it) because he feels it echoes back to the classic show. He's not a fan of most of the new series because he sees it as too serious while the quirky parts are what he remembers from when he grew up with old Who.
I always like hearing his views because they tend to be the complete opposite of whatever the forum thinks :p shows how much of a broad audience Doctor Who appeals to.
 
I really liked Listen, it was a great episode, Just finished watching The Caretaker, Another great episode, though think the time heist episode was my favorite of the series so far, I also like how we are getting to see a lot of Clara and she has a life away from the doctor.
