To break up all the talk of filler and no thriller, here are a few more excellent photos from up in the rafters and what not of the Duel warehouse. All taken from Alton Towers Haunted House on Facebook. Not everyone uses Facebook so maybe have not been seen these. I hope they do not mind me sharing them. ALl information however, is provided by me.
First we are back to the ghost corridor, photo is taken from above Electric Bill, looking towards the screaming heads.
From the same point as the above photo, we look to the right and can see the silhouette of the flying ghost mechanism, as seen in more detail in my earlier post today. This should also give you a good indication of it's location today. Immediately behind the wall on the far right, is the maintenance area.
I shared this one before, but worth sharing again as this is the section probably going to be removed in the upcoming refurbishment. This is the remains of the garden / swamp area after it was demolished to make way for the zombie basement in the 2002 / 03 closed season during the Duel refurbishment. This area
could look eerily similar in a few weeks time.
Years ago I worked out exactly where the photo above was taken and posted this below.. The red blob is where the person is stood taking the photo, the red lines are the lines of sight in relation to the photo above. This should give you a good idea of exactly where the picture is looking at. You are basically looking at what was to become the zombie basement in its entirety.....or the once swamp area in the photo above.
Screaming heads zone from the rafters. For those who may not know, the black walls are in place as they are in many portions of the ride, so that under show lighting conditions, these areas are very difficult / almost impossible to see. Very effective way to draw your eyes to only what the designers want you to see.
From the same position as above, turn to the right and you will see this, Tigger from behind. This is also the exit of the screaming head zone just before you enter the garden though the archway seen on the bottom right.
Are you scared of Spiders? I know I certainly am!
I believe this is taken from on top of the fire exit. For those who do not know, an L shaped brick corridor extends into the warehouse, this is to provide an isolated and separated escape route from wherever you are in the ride. Some scenes of the ride are rather central in the warehouse. This is so that if you are in some of the scenes located centrally in the warehouse (Spider, Ghost Corridor, Screaming Heads) there is a quick escape route into a safe environment, rather than having to make your way through combustible scenes to an exit located on the buildings permitter. You can see part of this fire exit in the photo above and you can see it on the ride plan above coming from the bottom right of the plan. When you first enter the garden scene, the monk who is moving behind the pillars to your left, that whole section lies parallel and backed onto this emergency exit corridor.
We will finish off with a photo of the drawing room mid construction.
