This isnt even about nostalgia though, it’s just a pathetic thing for guests to enter at a big theme park. When it used to be so much better not even that long ago, and really great originally. Oh well, another thing bites the dust
 
From my perspective, it's not through the lense of rose tinted nostalgia or through a lack of acceptance that change to the park is necessary. I'll be 39 this year so I can remember the high quality of the park and it's additions through adult eyes like it was yesterday. In fact, I feel for those who are much younger than me who will never properly remember the high quality world class park we used to have right here in the UK. All they'll ever know is the base level we're at now to the point where doing this sort of thing to a once superb dark ride is seen as an acceptable standard to them. Just look at the amount of times things in this forum things are described as good/decent/OK/acceptable/inoffensive enough "for Alton" or "for Merlin", even among the most optimistic of us.

I don’t know whether it’s the fact that I never saw that room in its “heyday” so to speak, but I still don’t really see a huge problem with it, personally. To me, it looks mostly the same, just with the furniture items reversed. It still has that “angled” look that it’s always had, through my eyes.

For the most part, I’m just glad that wheelchair users are now able to experience the indoor queue line!

I think that there is no reason wheelchair users shouldn’t be offered the same entrance, if the attraction was being installed now I would expect a level main entrance. Wheelchair users will definitely get a better experience compared to fighting their way in via the exit, now they get to see that experiance. But the props and queue route shouldn’t have suffered to allow this.

Yeah I agree - especially visiting with someone in a wheelchair! Let’s be honest it’s only changed because of COVID as we had to go through the shop and basically past everyone which wasn’t possible last year so I believe that’s why they’ve changed it. Before anyone says “but restrictions on distancing won’t last forever” we don’t know where we’ll be in October when I visit with my cousin in a wheelchair. Things might be back to normal, they might not, we just don’t know. I personally don’t see it as an issue - Duel never has a queue when I visit with with my friends using the normal queue that actually makes me pay attention to it anyway, as it’s just a walk on. Maybe it’s nostalgia for people or whatever, but I literally just don’t see this one as a big deal.
 
I may have said it before so apologies if I have.

I think they could gut it, make the entrance facade a lot more 'grand' and use the same technologies that Gangsta granny is using to make a more immersive haunted house experience. With things like projection mapping and peppers ghost, they could make a 1000% better experience. But realistically I can't see it happening. I think they would prefer to remove the whole area than to spend the money on it
 
Im sure if in 2030 Wicker Man’s preshow had all the wicker removed down to blank walls and the projection replaced with a google images GIF of some fire, some fans will still say “oh, I didn’t realise it was meant to be an effect, well it’s not that much different anyway”
