Looopings have stated that Baron is set to open on Wednesday July 1st:
Also, here is a good photo showing the ride vehicles, parks are fairly limited with what they can do with them it seems:

I don't think it's just an illusion. It does seem to go through the inversions quicker than other dive machines. I think this coaster could be better than what's generally expected.

It's nice to see a Park outside the Disney Parks take the theme and experience so seriously. Baron wouldn't look out of place at a Disney Park and I think that's a point other parks should aim to follow. I'm looking forward to see the interior and what effects the indoor scenes include.

Other parks do aim for similar.

Rides such as Black Mamba, Fluch von Novgorod and Wodan are all in this kind of league.

Whilst it's not Baron news, I thought this article from Looopings would be worth sharing anyway!

My only criticism of Black Mamba being that half way up the lift the theming seems to stop and all you can see is breeze blocks. :p

The latest Making of Baron video:

Sounds like the music is going to be fantastic!

Also I hadn't noticed until now the little details on the ride vehicles. This must be the only B&M where the hand bars on the OTSRs are detailed rather than just plain silver metal!

One of the many things, imho, Efteling excel at is the music quality on rides, and throughout the whole park. But having visited five times last year I could be accused of bias. But I'm a believer in quality over quantity, a theme park should be a complete immersive experience just like the 1930s 'Dream Palace' cinemas aimed to be.

And the icing on the cake is the 'extra mile' that Efteling seem to go with theming, it looks as if this ride will be no exception.

Anyway, very excited that this is on the verge of opening, and I hope to get there later this year.

I make no secret of the fact that I'm not much of a fan of Efteling, or perhaps it's actually the concept of parks where the actual ride experiences are so heavily overshadowed by park and ride presentation that I'm not keen on rather than the place itself. Nevertheless, I do admire the effort that they go to with theming and especially music, and by combining that with B&M hardware and an industrial revolution-era theme they've built something that I'm really looking forward to riding. That clip of the ride theme sounds great as I'd expected; I'd really like it if they got a music book made for the carousel's organ to play it!

I don't like that music much. It's too frivolously chipper and oom-pah-pah - sounds a bit silly. I was hoping for something a bit more serious, like DVH's score.

I can understand that, but remember that this Hoogmoed bloke is meant to have a greatly over-inflated opinion of himself and his achievements as 'The Mining Baron'. I presume the music is supposed to reflect this.

Sounds like quality, melodically complex music. Really good stuff.

Also, I love how long it takes to say 1898 in Dutch! :p

My favourite thing about this entire ride is the pronunciation of Baron 1898 in Dutch by the chap in the Making Of videos. Quite a name!

I've often thought the Efteling's various musical themes ought to be played on the three carousel organs there, rather than the random repertoire they have. I know that the Harem Theme from Fata Morgana has been arranged for mechanical organ, along with one other, I forget which.
Oh, and of course Monsieur Cannibale, as an old 'standard' has been done.

But yep, agree that Baron should be!

    From Efteling's Facebook page:

"Cool! Jacques Vriens wrote the adventure story about Baron 1898: D. The book is published in September!"

I would learn Dutch just to be able to appreciate that magnificent-looking publication. I need to visit this park at some point soon, it's just so beautiful.

Efteling have released another video, this time showing the themeing and inside of he station. The ride really does look amazing and you could easily think you are at a mine rather than a theme park.

It also shows that were is a single rider line as well as a normal line.

A ride of sheer beauty. Seems to carry good pace throughout its short journey also.
