Efteling: General Discussion

Last time I visited I had spaghetti Bolognese in a restaurant. Suppose she could just have pasta with no sauce.

I'd recommend contacting Efteling about the vegan options and reading this post by blog Blackbirds and Cake, who listed what they found during their recent trip this January.

Efteling doesn't seem to have a solid vegan range quite yet, despite having a decent vegetarian range. Most outlet menus are available online either via the official website or An Englishman's Guide (with some outdated listings) but they don't always label the options with the green V symbol.

(Also I'd be surprised to learn if there are any vegan forum members, let alone the tiny sphere of vegetarian forum members that I seem to only inhabit on meets!)
 
Hey I'm going to Efteling on the 4th of May. Has anyone got any tips, ride order, nice food,advice?

First time going and alone, so anything would be greatly appreciated.
 
Head towards Baron first and get that out the way before the queue builds up. Then Flying Dutchman, Joris and Python which are in that direction. You've then got the choice of a nice stroll around the lake towards Vogel Rok, or head that way via Symbolica. Then make your way over to best dark ride in the history of the universe - Droomvlucht and get that area done.

Make sure you check out the Fairy Tale Forest for the true Efteling experience. It's pretty big (we spent 2 hours in there), but you can walk through it all pretty quickly if you're pushed for time.

Tbh Efteling is such a unique park it's best to discover it on your own without a specific plan, just pick up a map and explore it, stumbling across all the weirdness as you go.
 
Be warned. Many an unfortunate soul has entered the Fairy Tale Forest and been lost forever.

Make sure you allow plenty of time and follow the paths in the same direction. Don’t even attempt shortcuts or do things in a different order or you’ll never get out!
 
Queue the extra time required for the front row on Baron. It's definitely best experienced on the front row.

As mentioned above make sure you get on Droomvluct (dreamflight) it's such a relaxing experience.

At park close go and watch the massive fountain display by the front of the park.
 
On a related note, queues close early to ensure rides stop running by closing time, so be careful about leaving a popular ride until the end of the day

Do they? That's genuinely interesting as I'll often sit on Joris for the last hour of a day at Efteling (they operate a re-ride policy if nobody is in your bay and I always visit extreme off peak) and have found them still dispatching trains at 10/15 minutes past ride close even with it totally walk on.

Genuinely shocked that they operate the complete opposite policy on peak days. Really poor that
 
They had to close the rides an hour early on Monday due to a thunderstorm, no fountain show either.

Unavoidable but annoying (the weather, not Efteling)!

Most rides that is. We dashed to Droomvlucht in the pouring rain and it was a walk-on!

It’s also worth noting that for most of Monday there was glorious sunshine, so the freak thunderstorm wasn’t too much of an issue.

Yeah we went and did Symbolica.

The issue (for us) was wanting re-rides on Joris and Dutchman and missing out... infuriatingly we had just been on Baron, which we'd have left in favour if the other two if we'd known.

Nevermind.
 
In a rather random turn of events, Baron 1898's minimum height restriction has been lowered from 1.4m to 1.32m. This was confirmed in a marketing email from Efteling today.

Does this mean other B&M mini-dive coasters will have a lower height restriction too or is this exclusive to Baron?
 
Pretty sure 1.32m was always the minimum from a B+M point of view anyway, it's just a lot of parks went with 1.4 or 1.37 instead. Valravn, Yukon Striker and Valkyria already have a 1.32m height restriction so I think Efteling have just lowered to match.

I see. Baron is the only mini-dive I've ridden so I didn't realise. :)
 
Is this newer divers or can Oblivion in theory go to 1.32M as well?
 
I'm sure Fenix down the road is 1.32m, maybe that's also had a little factor into the decision.

Disppointingly Efteling appear to have ditched their Luxe tickets this year (~€60 for park entry, breakfast, dinner, tea at polles, 20% in the shops and car parking). They have switched to a low/high season pricing instead.Luckily they allow you to still take a packed lunch in, so at least I can save pennies that way.
 
Annoyingly just after I’ve arranged a trip for the end of June the discount ticket offer on Groupon has ended. If anyone sees it pop up again please give me a shout.
