The golf courses should never have been themed on the rides and areas of the park. It was a completely unoriginal, ill-thoughtout idea which was outdated only a year or 2 after it first opened. This will continue to be a problem as time goes on.
Although I absolutely love mini/adventure/crazy golf, the Alton Towers one isn't that great. It was another rushed, half arsed Merlin job, plonked on an old piece of car park tarmac, and which never got finished properly. If they'd gone for a totally unique theme, or even themed each 9 hole course to the hotels (explorer course and Caribbean course etc) then it wouldn't have been a problem.

I almost entirely disagree, the holes at Alton Towers Extraordinary Golf are some of the best themed of all the courses I've played.
There are quite a few near London that are themed to Dinosaurs / Lost Worlds (links below) but other than the animatronic dinos the actual holes are quite boring with no real theming. Obsticles tend to just be rocks or wood.

Extraordinary Golf actually has themed each hole to something specific, which is much more unique and well thought out. The obsticles on each hole are linked in with the theme of the hole, making it a unique course you won't find anywhere else. Yes some of them seem dated now that the rides have closed, but if they keep a few as a tribute to rides that have passed and then update others as they become worn out it would work. The other issue if they did use Charlie or CBBC for some holes is what happens when the license runs out. Better to use something classically AT.
(possible minority opinion!)
I actually like the course themed to rides, (and even more controversially), I actually like seeing the closed ride themed holes. Of course, I'm not saying that I don't want it to be updated - the smiler, thirteen, hex for example would make great courses (that is, if hex opens again).

I didn't know about that, suppose that might have something to do with not doing the course for three/four years.By the way, there already is a Hex hole. It's next to the Air hole I think.
Take it that this means that the course isn't getting refreshed, given that the farm was removed years ago and there would be no point making it look better if it was going. Looks a lot better though now, at least they are looking at extraordinary golf as part of TLC.Before and after of the windmill from Carters-Decor facebook, uploaded on 26th January. Also looks like they are the main contractors for TLC.
I'd hazard a guess that they won't remove the Farm holes for CBeebies as it would probably involve paying the BBC to license them. This is me purely assuming the current license only extends to theme park.
