[WARNING: FILM ENTHUSIAST ENGAGED]

See, if I were to explain the reasons why I love a multitude of films I call my favourites, I would end up driving myself insane from how long it would take me to write it all! But I digress and I'll go back to the original question.

One film I absolutely adore and admire, which is currently at the top of the BFI Sight and Sound 50 Greatest Films of All Time 2012 list, is "Vertigo" by Alfred Hitchcock in 1958. Everything I find to be vital in a film is in here; A brilliantly twisted script, gorgeous cinematography/music/mis-en-scene, great editing and a wonderful cast. Of course, I can't forget the Master of Suspense himself, Hitchcock, in the praise I've got going on because it is his most personal film and it was originally intended to be a masterpiece... although the public and critics at the time greatly disagreed. "Vertigo" subverts expectations as part of the thriller genre, it's more than just an average thriller.

I'll just finish off with this image now because it sums up the whole film for me:

So yeah. I like films :)

One of my favourite films is the slightly more obscure 90's submarine thriller (came a year after the Hunt for Red October) - Crimson Tide. It's a gripping watch, a tight plot combined with some fabulously tense acting from both Denzel Washington (in his prime) and Gene Hackman. The soundtrack is also brilliant :p

I would say its between these Dog soldiers, Shawshank redemption and gladiator

My personal favourite film of all time is The Green Mile. It's one of the finest works I've ever seen. An interesting storyline, great characters, and the setting is brilliant - a prison in Louisiana in 1935 around the time of the Great Depression. There are some rather unpleasant scenes in it, such as when an execution is sabotaged and goes horribly wrong, but that makes it all the more real.

Another favourite of mine is Hot Fuzz. Although it's a comedy - and an excellent one at that - there's clearly an edge of seriousness to it regarding governance and dictatorships, which isn't that obvious at first. Governance and dictatorships is a theme in another favourite of mine - V for Vendetta.

can u vote on the poll or tell me new catagories to add

I would argue that there certainly isn't a 'best' film genre. You can possibly have a 'favourite', though for me even that's a struggle; it all depends upon mood, quality, company et cetera. :)

thatnks i will change it to your favourite gemre

On a serious note, anybody who hasn't seen Hotel Rwanda, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Forrest Gump, Inglorious Basterds, Dial M For Murder, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Jaws and Rope hasn't lived.

Oh, to heck with it. I love all these, watch all these ;)

I don't have a favorite film as of such but I love "1984", with John Hurt and Richard Burton.
It's a fine adaptation of the novel. A bit depressing, but it opens your eyes about the world we live in today, and how close we are to an Orwellian style state.

But if I had to choose a film it would have to be the original Ghostbusters, just out of nostalgia really. It's been a firm favorite from an early age.

:)

2001: A Space Odyssey, The Pianist, Life Of Brian to name the first three that came to mind.

Being a massive Bond fan, Casino Royale is up there too.

According to imdb my top 10 films are as follows:

In no particular order:
1. In bruges
2. Pulp fiction
3. Resovoir dogs
4. The matrix
5. Gladiator
6. City of god (Brazilian)
7. Life of Brian
8. Goodfellas
9. The Truman show
10. Saving private Ryan
Honourable mention goes to fight club ;)

Another one that I forgot to mention earlier is a foreign language film - Guillermo del Toro's Spanish film Pan's Labyrinth. Set against the backdrop of the war between Francoist forces and Republican rebels in the 1940s, it tells of a young girl, Ophelia, who tries to escape the real world by entering a fantasy one. Obviously, the story's a lot more complicated than that, but even so, it's brilliant. So beautifully crafted together - it's very hard to find fault with it at all. Admittedly, I did study it for Spanish at A Level, but even so, this didn't diminish my love for it whatsoever. :)

Mine are Bram Stokers Dracula, Forest Gump, Dead Silience, Breakfast at Tiffany's and all the classic Disney films.

5) Iron Man
4) Star Wars-Return Of The Jedi
3) Harry potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2
2) Avengers Assemble
1) Ferris bueller's Day Off

I Have some favourite films. My all time favourite is the first Back To The Future, It's so funny with a excellent plot I never get tired of seeing it :D Love Micheal J Fox and Christopher Lloyd as actors =) Other favourites of mine include Terminator 2, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate factory, The Harry Potter franchise (Though only the first 3 films as they are the only ones I've seen), The Empire Strikes Back, Batman from 1989 and The Dark Knight.

Also love animated films as well, these are mostly Disney though. My favourite Disney films are the Pixar ones and out of the "Classic" ones, I especially love 101 Dalmatians, And Alice In Wonderland (which explains my Alice Avatar) =)
