Fireworks 2016

Do you think it's likely to be unbearable on Saturday with queues? We are most likely just going to be in the kiddie areas. Any insight appreciated!

I still dont know what to do about this weekend..... Saturday is the only day I can make it, but the queues and how busy it will be, in particular getting out at the end of the night is really putting me off. Plus its a shorter show than previous years. Decisions decisions!!

The fireworks Saturday is usually the busiest day of the year for the park. With there being no Friday fireworks, the weekend could be busier than previous years, but also the park has been generally quieter since last years incident. So who knows what the weekend will bring crowd wise.

All being well my wife and I are going to be there both days staying overnight in splash landings. We both don't like busy crowds and I hate queuing. We mainly go for the fireworks as our local firework events are not wheelchair friendly. I'm not expecting to get many rides in, but I'm aiming to get at least one of each of the rides that I want to do done on each day. I'm not bothering with fast track as from previous experience these are completely useless especially on very busy as well as very quiet days. Most people seem to leave the park straight after the fireworks, so an opportunity to sneak in a few rides in the dark with out too much of a queue.

If all being well, I'll should be at the turnstiles (usually right at the front) before the gates open and we will be in the disable viewing area for the fireworks. If you spot me do come over and say "hi". Just take extra care around Jess due to her rare medical conditions. Another reasons that we don't like crowds.

Roy and Jess :)

I assume you know that the wheelchair viewing platform needed to be pre-booked and AT are reporting on Twitter it is fully booked for Saturday.

I fully expect this Saturday to be the busiest day at Alton Towers in over 2 years.

There could be almost 25,000 I reckon - Thorpe and Chessington are closed - so every MAP holder and, sadly, every VIP MAP holder are likely to be there...

what's the difference between the MAP and VIP MAP?

Unlimited Fastrack, which negatively affects everyone elses day.

The issue will be if most VIPs are at the park at once.

Right, that's me decided, i'm going to stay away from the place this Saturday! Can't be bothered with all the busyness!!

I may be wrong but I think park capacity is more to do with what's safe for the general layout, the area, and in the lawns/firework arena. They won't turn down business unless they have to, if they're allowed 30,000 or whatever it is then they'll sell it accordingly. So I expect the park to be ridiculously busy given the number of closures. All hotels/lodges are sold out already.

I'm not sure how it works at Towers, you may well be right. When on a tour at WDW's Magic Kingdom we asked about park capacity there and were told that there wasn't an exact figure as it changes all the time depending on ride availability. If rides are closed for maintenance for a period of time then park capicty is reduced accordingly.

I do think Towers would be sensible to limit their capacity somewhat on Saturday to make the day slightly less of a misery for the guests that are present. Also if they've had any brains they will have hired in more external food trucks than usual to compensate for the total lack of food outlets in the park (plus you know for sure they are going to turn up, unlike some of the Towers staff).

There queues are going to be bad at the weekend. Then I have no doubt that fastrack will ensure that these long queues are not only long but slow moving. I don't know how many VIP pass holders there are but if you assume a large majority of them will show up, their unlimted fastrack will have an impact.

:)

I'm in splash landings on Sunday night, if I get to the park early enough on Sunday, can I still claim a fastrack?

I would think that once all the car parks are full then thats it, capacity reached! Wonder what the car parking capacity is at towers anyway. You have the main car park, express, hotels, and the car park behind enchanted village, then you have the muddy fields down the side of the hotel/main road and the field behind enchanted village....
