Football Discussion

Don't think Rashford, Delph or Wilshere should be there. Shows Woys blatant bias towards players of bigger clubs.

Hahahahaha pick two players who have been injured for most the season. Roy's an idiot.

Every team is required to take 3 goalkeepers, which is fair enough given the importance of the role and that you can't call up replacements mid-tournament...

Too many central midfielders in that squad, plus only 3 central defenders... Not inspiring really...

Thought that might be the case. I wonder how often the 3rd keeper actually gets used. That'd be some serious bad luck if 2 keepers got injured or suspended!

I agree, though Dier can fill in at centre-back. Let's hope the likes of Cahill, Smalling and even Stones don't get injured before otherwise we've a real problem. It seems there's often one or two players who get injured in the friendlies before, wonder who it'll be this year...

If Jordan Henderson or Fabian Delph go to the Euros ahead of Drinkwater then there is something seriously wrong! You can't take both Wilshere and Henderson either seeing as they've been injured.

Anyway, 240,000 people turned out to celebrate our title win yesterday:

WOW!

:)

Gutted does not even cover how I feel right now. :( We had such a brilliant run in this competition and I thought we had a genuine chance of winning a trophy. Alas, football is a cruel game and one that brings out every single emotion in you. No Europa League, no Community Shield and no major trophy to put in our cabinet at Selhurst. Some great times this season, but ultimately ended up in disappointment. But hey, we'll get another shot at it, I just hope we don't have to wait 26 years for it to come around again.

UP THE PALACE!

It's days like this that make me realise how much I love football. I still don't know how we managed it after the season we've had, but hey - we've won the FA Cup for the first time in twelve years! I couldn't be any happier right now! :D

The other major point of news that's emerged tonight is that Mourinho looks set to take over at Old Trafford as manager next season. Bring it on, I say!

And in Scotland, Hibs have finally won the Scottish cup, the greatest ever cup hoodoo, after 114 years...yes, you read that right, one hundred and fourteen years!

...And they ruin the moment with a pitch invasion that looks like a replica of what happened at Wembley in 1977, ripped up turf, broken goal posts and all...:expressionless:

A shame that the referee's performance is being talked about but Clattenburg had a shocker of a final. Got big decisions wrong for both sides. I don't think either side deserved to lose (although maybe Palace just for Pardew's dance - sheer arrogance), Lingard's instinctive strike was a beauty and thankfully United held on.

Rooney was fantastic in the midfield role I thought. If this is his future then I'm quite happy with it. Fantastic work rate, spread the ball well, made some important tackles at the back and also went on a fantastic run for the equaliser.

I actually felt sorry for Clattenburg in the final - he is by far our best referee and I don't know what happened. He, along with Oliver, are the best at playing advantages during matches so it was strange that he missed two or three. I thought his performance from the second half onwards was much improved.

It was harsh on Palace, I suppose a penalty shoot out may have been a fairer ending. Everyone was saying how great Rooney is in midfield but the way he plays there is so predictable, he has a lot to learn in my eyes. Give me someone like Kante or Drinky any day, can't beat energy in the middle of the park.

Pleased that Vardy got another goal for England last night, maybe Roy will realise at some point that he is a centre forward and a not a left winger. Vardy must had listening to Roy speak about him after games also, it's so patronising.

:)

I'm glad it was won by a goal though (and not just because it was for United), I never like seeing games decided by penalties. It is probably the fairest way of deciding it, but cruel nonetheless. Energy in the middle is good if it's effective, some midfielders will aimlessly chase the ball and leave huge gaps. Reading the game is just as important.

Only half-watched England last night but saw Vardy's dive, though the media are keeping that quiet as it was to England's benefit, though Kane bottled the penalty which is a good sign before the tournament. Of what I saw we looked shaky at the back.

Van Gaal will be sacked by Manchester United which comes as no surprise. Seen a lot people saying how disgraceful it is that Man United announced this immediately following the FA Cup win. No they didn't, in fact they haven't yet, it was leaked and the journalists of course all leapt onto it.

I really don't get why people say Clattenburg is a great ref (And this is not me being bitter), he's f*cking awful. I remember when we played West Brom a couple of seasons back, Craig Dawson elbowed Julian Speroni in the face for one of their goals and it went completely ignored by him. Ultimately the game finished 2-2 in one we should have won.

In the final, Wickham should have been given the advantage and Zaha should have been given a penalty at least twice. Not saying we would have won if either or both were given, but it's quite frankly bullsh*t really. I really can't wait to see the Champions League final to see what kind of crap decisions he's gonna make.

Well, it's official - one of the worst-kept secrets in football has finally been revealed. José Mourinho is the new Manchester United manager. It was only a matter of time before this happened, but I think it's the best possible choice for the club. I'm optimistic that Mourinho will be a successful manager at Manchester United, but retain a sense of caution, especially after what happened with LvG and my own misplaced optimism following that appointment. Perhaps the most important question at the moment is what signings will be made, though we shall have to wait and see about those.

the medical staff will need to be careful, though- remember what happened?

Good appointment I think, will be able to attract the big names even without Champions League football. Clearly there was a lot going on behind the scenes last season, even with Eva I think there was more going on, the Eva situation started it all and I believe she was very popular within the club which didn't help the players. Also the public didn't like the treatment she received as it's already very hard for women to get into those kinds of important roles. He was out of order and hopefully he has taken his time away to reflect and learn from it. Did Fergie ever publicly criticise people within the club? I don't think so, he always backed the Glazers even during the protests in 2010/2011. Mourinho can't do this.

That said, his personality and winning mentality is a perfect fit for Man United. I don't buy into the myth that he's a defensive manager. In Chelsea's title winning season in 2014/15 only Man City scored more goals, Chelsea were scoring plenty. He may park the bus in the big games which I am perfectly fine with. Liverpool fans couldn't handle it in 2014 when he parked the bus and Brenton proved he's an average manager with no plan B.

His first signing is looking likely to be Zlatan. I've always been a fan of Zlatan and wanted to see him in the Premier League but had reservations about him joining United. However, I've been thinking about it and come to the conclusion that he would be good for Man United, assuming he joins. One thing Man United currently lack are leaders and big personalities in the dressing room. Zlatan is the kind of person who would be great for the this and is a player the likes of Rashford, Lingard and Martial will look up to and should learn from. He will say what he thinks and doesn't care if people don't like it. This could also be dangerous but we need a change in approach.

I don't think United have had an outspoken player along the lines of Zlatan Ibrahimovic for some time - I'd argue that the last player like that to have played for the club was probably Cristiano Ronaldo. He's got a pretty good goalscoring record, and goals are definitely something we lacked in the season just gone, so there's that. Plus he's out of contract with PSG, so we could nab him on a free transfer, which would be fantastic, and quite possibly the biggest free transfer (for want of a better term) the club's seen for quite some time!

Big shout out to my second team Barnsley fc for being promoted despite at one point this season, being bottom of the league after loosing 8 on the spin. Two trips to Wembley, 2 victories at Wembley we are back in the championship.

As the bloke in the toilet said to me before leaving Wembley we've gone from rock bottom to heckingbottom.

Well done to AFC Wimbledon too who after only 14 years have reached the same level as MK Dons.

:)
