Future Flat Ride Speculation

Also, they’ll know that a new CBeebies coaster doesn’t really appeal to the masses, and wouldn’t be enough to see a significant buzz and boost to the numbers for next year.

I’m hopeful.
I would agree but I think they would probably do something small. either a flat or in my opinion more likely retheme galactica to fit in with FV to make a complete land

I wonder if the success of Toxicator will play a big part in their plans. If it draws in the crowds it could give them reason to push back Horizon, if they are still planning on building it.

I would like to see them add something around the 1.2m height mark next though, as opposed to another 1.4m ride as it would be more accessible.

Either way I think we could see something start mid-year on either Horizon or one of the vacant flat ride areas (they have quite a few options) It's probably best to keep an eye on planning applications and areas being cordoned off or even markings on the ground.

I would also argue that building new coaster in cbeebies land, especially if it's themed to Bluey would probably draw in a bigger crowd than most thrill rides, plus it would be open during the non-season which i see as their biggest growth opportunity. Don't discount the young family market as it's pretty big when it comes to theme parks, i know a certain place down south that's done very well out of this market.

They may not have to apply for flat rides, a lot of the areas are under a GDO given the short time some flat rides can be built (some less thrilling options don't even require foundations) we could only hear about it when the park opens next year (assuming there are no leaks)

I am aware of the GDO so it depends where in the park they want to build. I would also like to think they wont just place a flat ride down and at least think about theming options like they have done with Toxicator, extending the build time. Plus everything gets leaked at Alton Towers. There are so many eyes and drones on the place I'm sure we would find out. Also i feel like the park will want to shout about something new at the fireworks event, even if we haven't heard anything by then.

I do wonder though how many multi-million pound projects they can have overlapping with each other. I can't imagine the park makes several million pounds a year in profit, despite the general public perception that the place is a rip-off.

Chessington are doing flat rides at the same time as coasters with Jumanji and Minecraft which it is not impossible for it to be happening as part of Horizon or in the run up.

With Minecraft, it's supposedly very similar to Project Horizon which I'd say it could very well be supported by flats of some form.

Nothing is impossible, no.

However Smiler didn't open with a flat ride. Neither did Wickerman and as for Nemmy Reborn......N-ST was already at the park so it wasn't exactly a new attraction rather than re-opening a SBNO ride.

My bet will be Horizon will be a one off ride rather than part of a new area with accompanying flat rides. I think the next new area will be the re-theme of TWODW.

There is a part of me that wonders about Monkey Swinger at Chessington possibly being relocated. Flavio's fence is still up, and Monkey Swinger is all packed up. Wouldn't necessarily say no, think wave swingers are good fun

Not sure it will be a huge financial success. Don't get me wrong new Flat rides were badly needed to add capacity and help spread the crowds so they very much made the correct call installing it but I don't think it's a ride that will be getting huge queues all season.

After the opening few week's hype has died down with Toxicator....I imagine it will be Nemmy, Smiler and Wickerman that people rush to first thing again and where they spend most of their time during the day. This is precisely why they haven't added flat rides for a very long time. The ROI isn't as strong.

Blackpool's new Gyro swing is somewhat different though given it's sheer size. It's much easier to market a record breaking ride for the country like that.

Well think back to nemesis 1994, then oblivion a few years later, then air 2002, all of them were very expensive to build and install, with relitivly close finishing dated, but they were able to afford that and install ripsaw, and all the other rides installed.

It has been 8 years since wickerman the only main investment was a retrack and retheme, they probably need to make up for the lack of investments during covid and a bit earlier

Shawn Sanbrooke is at Chessington today and has once again mentioned the idea of Monkey Swinger moving to Towers. Not only would it fit in the Flávio’s spot, but Shawn has got a bit of a record of “hinting” towards projects. For context, he “suggested” people get their last rides on Blade and Duel before their closures, as well as correctly predicting other investments such as Toxicator and the reopening of Sub Terra

Could well be something to keep an eye on

Shawn himself is not a source, some people are sometimes starstruck by him whilst staff have been told in the past not to engage with him. I’m not going to drag the conversation into the usual debates.

Vloggers are not journalists and should not be treated as such. Whether the information is true is a complete gamble on top of a game of Chinese Whispers.

I appreciate that but again, he doesn’t really idly speculate as he knows he has a certain reputation. Of course he’s not a journalist, but it’s still potentially pertinent to the discussion taking place

I just don't get why. It must be knackered and I can't imagine Zierer charge the world for a chairswing
Merlin often reuse their rides if they're not needed elsewhere at their original place.

The Weymouth Sealife rides ended up at Thorpe Park and Chessington i.e. River Rafts, Trawler Trouble and High Striker

Some of the older Heide Park rides ended up at UK Merlin parks such as Sea Dragons and Jolly Rocker.

Forgot to say Peter Rabbit was from a Sealife in Germany. Shame the flume there didn't also turn up at Towers.

I understand reusing rides, but why move one so old?

Hmm... It's as old as Ug Swinger was when it moved to Cloud Cuckoo Land as Twirling Toadstool assuming it's brand new at the time it originally opened.

A lot of Wave Swingers are designed to last a very long time if it's well looked after.

Had toxicator been placed in the same place as Ripsaw was, the build time would have been cut dramatically. They built the concrete platform during the warmer months last year to ensure it had time to fully cure and dry.

Assuming they don’t build another flat up (or dig down) the installation of the flat and theming elements would only take a few months, or the off season.

If Towers get monkey swinger, i don’t think they should put it in walliams world. It would be better fit themed into dark forest or even maybe x-sector. I don’t see them putting it in walliams world because that IP could be going in the next few years, then they would have to retheme it again. Personally think it will go where roller disco was. Then we will have people saying ‘well it’s just Ug-swinger with a repaint’ 🤣
