And the experiment is complete. .....VR rollercoasters are NOT the future, time to be creative again! They have proved they can be with wickermanVR is gone quite obviously to increase throughput. And boy does it work.

The ride has a throughput of around 1,100-1,200 per hour without VR. In fact, it probably gets a higher throughput than nearly every other B&M Flyer!
It's easily 30 to 40% worse when they use it. Fine on a quiet day but when it's busy - NO thanks!

Does it ride any different with and without the VR?

I agree that it was done to increase throughput, certainly not done with good intentions BUT it is a good move nonetheless, and yes as the above says, VR may be good in occasional circumstances where they compliment the ride experience (DBGT for instance) , but where they dominate the ride, it only shows up the creative team for being lazy and incapable of manipulating the real world environment, which is where ride experience is at its best.
Now, Galactica is rather pointless without VR, surely? It makes no sense over an oasis looking area with an aqua blue covered track. It's time to match it with the rest of forbidden valley once again.
Bring AIR back! And, yes, as I understand it, theming the tunnel is a source of enthusiast humor everywhere, but seriously, it needs to be done for real this time

If I were them, I would just completely scrap the VR next season, but keep the Galactica theme. I would get their old friends leek signs to just do a spacey thing on the tunnel on the cheap. We’d all love to see the tunnel of our dreams but with the current budgets I think we are never going to get it.
Space theme mantained, enthusiasts relatively happy, win win situation!

Exactly the same as me lol!I’ve never actually tried VR.
1. I’d probably throw up
2. I just can’t be arsed to wait for it

Vinyl prints on that tunnel would look horrendous. Just super super cheap. If I were them, I would just completely scrap the VR next season, but keep the Galactica theme. Regardless of the tunnel, the ride should just be reverted to Air next year, and the park should forget the VR ever happened.
It’s a shame the 2016 budget was wasted on headsets, as they failed to properly address the ride’s problems (arguably creating more...). It could have easily been used to properly dress the ride area, with waterfalls, vegetation and large rock work... Basically how it was originally intended... oh well
Got some priority passes I hope

I did indeed, and a free coffee lol - Although we'd already paid for £60 fast passes each and hardly used them because the rain meant hardly any queueing time!

Fast passes are a waste of money, especially on a rainy day.

That depends on how much value you place on it. There is clearly a market and demand for it.

Bear in mind that Seaworld Orlando recently removed the VR on Kraken Unleased. I assume they will keep Unleashed on the name, but they could drop it.If I were them, I would just completely scrap the VR next season, but keep the Galactica theme. I had to be Evacuated off Duel as the cart behind us somehow broke the wheel off the front so the house lights came on and was released manual
I hated Air as a coaster and think it’s the worst SW coaster at the park but riding it with VR on back in July it rose to 4th on my list behind Nemesis, Wickerman and the Smiler.
If it was removed totally I doubt I ride it again unless the queue was under 15 mins.

They either need to keep the VR or revert back to AIR (or some other theme.) having a space themed rollercoaster, outside, In the light, surrounded by trees, is farcical.
What would be cool is building a massive dome and making it a space mountain esque ride, but I can’t see them ever spending the money to do that!

Considering they can't even afford to staff it in the first place...

Would be difficult as a lot of the track goes over paths. They either need to keep the VR or revert back to AIR (or some other theme.) having a space themed rollercoaster, outside, In the light, surrounded by trees, is farcical.

Yeah it would.
Would be cool though, a way to give it a new lease of life. I don’t think you’d lose much by doing it either as the theming has never been the strongest, by Wardley’s own admission.
