Galactica: General Discussion

I honestly didn't find it nauseating at all. I was a bit reluctant, but tried the VR because my friend wanted to. Nowhere near as bad as Red Arrows SkyForce or Revolution.

Of course, YMMV

EDIT: I have also tried Mount Mara at Bobbejaanland and while the image was a bit "jumpy" (felt as if the goggles were lagging) I didn't feel too bad after riding that either
 
I've heard that seats without VR are pretty much virtually empty. I don't do looping coasters as sadly my very first looping coaster was the one at Drayton Manor not shockwave and it was so rough and hurt my neck. Medic staff not good. No VR for me then
 
Air was actually my very first inverting coaster. It's a funny one, the only time you're really upside down is when you plunge down the first drop, as the "inversions" just turn you from front to back in a lying down position. Always had a bit of a soft spot for Air.

Not so much Galactica though. I've never done the VR as it's just never appealed to me at all. I'd rather see the actual surroundings than have tiny screens pushed up against my eyes, and I can definitely see how it might make some people unwell, especially if the audio, visuals, etc. are out of sync with the actual ride itself.

The worst part of Air inverts are the sun getting in your eyes, the ride is very smooth, if you can do Wickerman or thirteen, you can do this, we got stuck on it a few years ago and I fell asleep in my seat, the ride op that came up the stairs to tell us what was going on thought I'd died lol.

The good thing about Air inverts are they are smooth inline rolls, rather than loops, so because of the width of the track and trains, the transition is very slow, think of it as rolling over in bed with your eyes shut, it's that smooth.

I sadly didn't get the chance to do thirteen. But loved wicker man. Will do it next time just tell myself it's B&M I will be fine.

That’s Nemesis, Galactica and Smiler out then. G-Force has a reputation for being rough. Don’t tar all looping coasters with the same brush. Personally I hated the Galactica VR, but then I’ve never liked simulator type rides. I didn’t want to go VR but was forced to, I rode VR row with two ‘friends’ from this site, one of whom assured me I could ride on said row without the goggles on. The ride op then told me I HAD to wear them on said row and wouldn’t let me off the row to change. Bar stewards.

I wasn’t sick after the ride but I rode Nemmy right after and was very close to performing a ‘liquid laugh.’ If you have motion sickness issues then I wouldn’t touch Sonic Spinball with a barge pole. I did and paid the price by chundering all over the place at the end of Smiler soon afterwards
 
Skyscraper - no they were evacuating the day I was there and it was down all day after that.

Dipper - Not a fan of Waltzers on tracks in any case. Watched it and thought nah. Have no interest whatsoever in smiler had already figured out it was a chunder experience. Air I may try and nemmy um and ah about id love to give it a go.
 
Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago; Oblivion and Thirteen both down most of the day. :(

Hopefully I'll get to ride them again on the 7th July (Summer TowersStreet meet)

We are kindred spirits! To be fair I put the hurling incident almost solely on Spinball. I hadn’t been on a spinning ride for about 20 years as the only time up until that day that I’d thrown up due to a ride was on the way home from Flamingoland after going on a Twister ride. I vowed that day never to go on a spinning ride like that again. A vow I kept for 20 years before I foolishly let someone talk me into trying Spinball. I was just about managing until the car came down off that vertical arch thing, then all hell broke loose and the car just spun like berserk. Soon after I went on Smiler for the first time, and quite honestly half way round I’d had enough. I was ticking off the inversions mentally as I couldn’t wait for it to stop, then somewhere around double figures I lost count and genuinely felt I was going to pass out. I then proceeded to blast out the Stella raspberry cider I had earlier, all over the floor of the train (no, I couldn’t wait til I got off, sorry!), the exit stairs & outside the gift shop, and perhaps over @rob666 shoes.

So yes, my Smiler experience MIGHT have been different had I not endured the torture of Spinball first, but I think Smiler is just too intense for me. Loop after loop after loop, really what’s the point? Not my cup of tea at all.

Oh I totally feel for you. I think I would be the same on smiler. Although the thought of Oblivian excites rather than scares me. Maybe a different story when sat on the train like :rolleyes:
 
I'm thinking about trying Smiler' in a couple of weeks, but I am also worried about whether I would be able to handle all the inversions.

Sucks doesnt it. I watched some vlogs while planning my trip to AT, I guess from what I've read you will love it or hate it
 
I wouldn't reccomend you ride Commander then, @Snagglemama. ;)

The only ride that's ever made me genuinely ill. It became somewhat legendary around these parts after a trip to Tilburg Kermis a few years back. It's amazing how adding an extra axis of rotation can turn one of the greatest rides ever made in to one of the worst!

The best part of those kinda rides is watching people's faces. I'm okay on twisters and funnily enough I love Miami's, have done paratrooper. Not for me this one I don't think :yum::D

There was a ride just like that at Hull fair last year. It was pretty terrible - though the cycle was considerably shorter!
