Does scream Galactica admittedly.
But this could still be project ocean linked, ocean being the key clue with all the blue merch etc. The flat could be linking the 2 together, touching on the potential galactica retheme.
See what the fireworks have in store anyway.
I feel it may be both, the fireworks may be themed as the phalanx expo (which may be why it is dated 2024) where they showcase some aliens (nemesis, project ocean, galactica etc)

Yeah, I do wonder if with Varney gone we'll see less shipping containers in future or has it become so physiologically stamped into Merlin by this point?

Speaking of which and a genuine question, when was the last time that Merlin built a new attraction that didn't have any shipping container added to it? (not including rethemed rides like Alton Manor). Was it Smiler maybe?

There was no bunting in forbidden valley so I feel this was a step forward.

In all fairness the valley was made up of shipping containers before the refurb no? They did demolish and erect down 2 buildings that are not actual shipping containers if I’m correct?

I wasn’t sure if Galactica would get a re-theme next season with all the cuts, monorail, refurbishment, and Hex. Along side the new flat ride in progress would there be much of a budget for next year if ground work is starting on horizon if believed? But if Galactica did it would be very welcomed and like everyone says a cohesive theme throughout moans from me and I wouldn’t want the theme to be too light as then it still wouldn’t go with the area. I actually don’t mind the whole area being a darker theme as its suits it very well in my opinion it’s a pretty cool and unique area.

I’m just not getting my hopes up as we did this with the beach at Thorpe from the posters.

I assume all this fireworks branding was signed off a long time ago. We’ve heard rumours that the Galactica retheme has been scrapped for next year so perhaps this very Galactica looking branding was meant to be an announcement for this.

Look to me they may expand on the story of Galactica and tie it into the whole phalanx theme, but I can’t see a re theme or new name coming. Fireworks seemed to indicate some sort of galactic travel element. I think it would be even more confusing if they decided to change it again, most guests still seem to refer to it as Air.

When in the park, most guest's dont even refer to it as AIR they just call in the flying one, or the one where you lay down I am yet to hear someone who dosn't know the park much call it by Air or Gal

After seeing the fireworks, are we still assuming they will retheme Gal or was this all wishful thinking?

As said above, I assume this was the original plan, but due to budget cuts, it’s no longer happening for next year. The fireworks, branding etc will have been signed off loooooong before they realised the budget wouldn’t stretch.

The expo itself is easily a standalone element without us ever knowing as they could have dropped a Gal announcement without it affecting the overall show.

I understand your point, but that would mean that most people call nemesis the leg dangling thing, or smiler the loopy ride. Air had a lot of nostalgia for many people, it was my first inverting ride for example. My point is more the fact that the name galactica doesn’t really seem to hold the same weight that Air did and still does. But I fully understand people refer to certain rides by what they are visually.

They don't call other rides by similar names (apart from rita), because those rides have a strong identity, something which Gal and rita lacks, they don't have much unique theming elements, and the story isn't well explained to guests, for both rides (if rita has a story)
although rita is a bit more known as I hear it more often, but still hear the quick one mentioned way to often.

I'd be bamboozled if it doesn't become a Space Defence theme after that show. Works for me, ties in nicely and keeps the more heroic intent.
