Since the closures were announced, Piccadilly Records, the largest independent record store in Manchester (arguably the best in the UK), have done crazy business. Not only has it raised awareness of the store, but they're having to take more stock to the point of being snowed under. Of course, not everyone has such a shop on their doorstep, but it's great news for music and the independent sector, much as I feel for those losing their jobs at HMV.
