Holiday Park - General Discussion

A massive queue at the park entrance was unpleasant to start with.

Food prices are very high - as you'd expect from Plopsa (Plopsaland is the same) - but when you are comparing to EP and everything is at least 25% more expensive, it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Very average food offerings for high prices.

The park itself was looking modest, but I don't quite understand why they removed the Wild Mouse. It may not have been the best ride out there, but it filled a gap in the market... as it stands, the park have 2 thrill coasters and the kiddie opening soon.

As for operations - the less said the better. EGF opened at noon. Why? Who knows. It then opened with one train, the other nowhere to be seen. The queue was 50 minutes and with fastrack guests picking random rows, you ended up waiting an unknown amount of time in the packed, unorganised station. The snail pace loading was infuriating. The coaster was still good, but isn't top 10 for me these days. I just don't think it runs enough to ever properly warm up now...

A shame to hear that, it was a pretty enjoyable park when we all visited back in 2014.

Their coaster line-up, or lack of one, is still something that surprised me. For what essentially seems more of a family park there is just one family coaster (when it opens). Hopefully they have plans for further investments in this regard over the next few years.

It was around this time of year we visited Holiday Park in 2014 and EGF was only on one train then with the second train still in parts. I wonder if it the same case this year.

When I visited recently, downtime was like nothing I’ve ever seen at any park in the world.

There were times in the day where pretty much every major ride was closed, as well as a few of the smaller ones. Water rides were on staggered openings which didn’t help either.

The park was dead but our ride count was low as a result of the high downtime. When rides did go down, it took ages for engineers to even turn up, let alone fix the rides.

Is this normal for Holiday Park? Many of the staff seemed pretty demotivated too. It really didn’t feel like we were in Germany, given how slick most of the rest of their parks are (Movie Park being another obvious exception).
 
I've only been there once, so can't give a fair assessment.
... BUT...
The only park I've visited that I have less desire to return to is DLP.

Make of that what you will.

For reference:

I highly doubt the park would invest in returning the second train, only to close the coaster down? It's still one of the best rated coasters in Europe! Poppycock.

No way is it going to be removed at the end of the season. Holiday Park needs more coasters, not less.
 
I would not have thought the operations would be quick enough to support two train operation.

When I visited in 2019, the operator and host would walk from the front to back of the train physically checking every seat belt, they’d then walk back to the front of the train, the op would go into the booth, lock the bars, then they’d come back out and make their way from the front to the back checking every bar, then finally walk back to the front and send it.

On a two train service, that would be a heck of a lot of stacking!
 
The second train will certainly be spending a lot of time waiting in the brakes due to the inefficient loading procedures but there's still a benefit to the park as at least it looks like they're making an effort.

On the other hand if (hypothetically) they are currently taking taking 10 minutes between dispatches then adding the 2nd train would only give them about 1 extra train per hour (assuming a ~90s time saving). They would get a similar capacity increase by just changing the loading procedures - lock the bars straight away and have the staff close them when checking the seat belts.
 
Plopsa did add a roof to Expedition Ge Force’s station after taking over, so they have shown some commitment to it. Given the size of the investments relative to the size of the parks they own, Plopsa have been one of the better chains.
 
Whilst I do enjoy the ride, I think I was left disappointed purely because, for me, it just didn’t live up to the hype.

I mean, it’s a fun ride, but best steel coaster in Europe? Come on! I know that newer coasters have come along since the days of Mitch Hawker, but I’m amazed that all those polls rated it ahead of the likes of Shambhala, Nemesis and Katun… and that’s not even mentioning the coasters outside Europe which polled below EGF.

Had it not been for the hype, I genuinely think I’d have enjoyed it a lot more, but as it stands now, I’d actually say it’s not even the best coaster at Holiday Park.
 
Not the best coaster at Holiday Park. Now I realise you're joking. It's currently sat at number 13.

Other coasters there the Premier Sky Scream in pain which doesn't even crack the top 100 and a zierer thingymabob.

It's certainly a great ride, not the most intense ride but it's got some amazing air time and definitely beats something like Silver Star.
 
I’d agree that it beats Silver Star, but I wouldn’t rate EGF that much more highly than Sky Scream to be honest.

EGF is fun, but I don’t know, it just didn’t live up to the hype for me.
 
EFG must be some of the most extreme and sustained ejector airtime on the planet. If that's not your thing then I guess you wouldn't rate it, but it very mush is mine so I do!
 
EGF was fantastic when I last rode it in 2014, and I’m looking forward to riding it again later this year and seeing how it compares with some of the other coasters I have ridden since then.

I don’t mind Premier Sky Rockets at all, but EGF is miles better than them!
 
I think another major issue with EGF is that (I’m told), and please correct me if I’m wrong here, that it’s only an outstanding ride in the front rows.

We rode it several times towards the back of the train and thought it was good, but not outstanding. People since then have told me it’s far better at the front.

A really good coaster, for me, has good points wherever you ride it. Anyone who’s ridden Fønix yet will probably agree with me that it’s great at the front and at the back, and each has its merits. I’d also say the same if the Intamin Mega Lites I’ve ridden, so it surprises me to learn that the front row of EGF (which we never went on) is apparently miles better.
 
I rode multiple seats front to back, and can't say I found the difference hugely pronounced. I did visit on an insanely hot day, so that may well be a factor.
