The German Plopsa amusement park Holiday Park says goodbye to a classic attraction. The medieval dark ride Burg Falkenstein, opened in 1987, will soon be closed permanently. The very last ride will take place on Tuesday 1 November. After that, a major renovation will start, in which the transport system will be preserved. The attraction will be dominated by Die Schlümpfe, or: The Smurfs.
Visitors will soon be immersed in the world of Papa Smurf, Smurfette and Gagarmel.
"You will experience an unforgettable journey through Smurfland and get to know the blue inhabitants up close" , reports Holiday Park. Plopsa director Steve Van den Kerkhof emphasizes that The Smurfs are still extremely popular with both adults and children today.
Burg Falkenstein will remain closed next year. In 2024, the Smurfs dark ride should open. A
water playground based on the animation series Super Wings is planned for 2023, while Holiday Park wants to open a
Tomorrowland area in 2025 . There are also plans for a large
water park and a
theme hotel in Maya de Bij style.
Guided tour
Fans get the chance to say goodbye to Burg Falkenstein in a special way. On Saturday 5 November, the first day of the winter season, a select group of people can walk through the scenery and take photos and videos to their heart's content. Interested parties can register online for the special tour. The old sets are also being auctioned.
It is not the first time that the Plopsa Group has entered into a collaboration with the world-famous blue figures. For example, in the covered Flemish amusement park Plopsa Station Antwerp, you can find the interactive dark ride
The Smurf Adventure . This year, an existing family roller coaster in Plopsa Coo was given a Smurf theme under the name
The Smurfer . Occasionally De Smurfen are also present in Plopsaland De Panne for
meet-and-greets .
