Holiday Park - General Discussion

Visited on a day it just made it to be warm enough to open and noticed no substantial difference between front and back. Those bunny hops still had me out of my seat

Out with the old and in with the new, as Burg Falkenstein is being torn out this November for a very Smurf-y 2024 opening.

Loopings article: Smurfs theme for classic dark ride in German amusement park

The German Plopsa amusement park Holiday Park says goodbye to a classic attraction. The medieval dark ride Burg Falkenstein, opened in 1987, will soon be closed permanently. The very last ride will take place on Tuesday 1 November. After that, a major renovation will start, in which the transport system will be preserved. The attraction will be dominated by Die Schlümpfe, or: The Smurfs.

Visitors will soon be immersed in the world of Papa Smurf, Smurfette and Gagarmel. "You will experience an unforgettable journey through Smurfland and get to know the blue inhabitants up close" , reports Holiday Park. Plopsa director Steve Van den Kerkhof emphasizes that The Smurfs are still extremely popular with both adults and children today.

Burg Falkenstein will remain closed next year. In 2024, the Smurfs dark ride should open. A water playground based on the animation series Super Wings is planned for 2023, while Holiday Park wants to open a Tomorrowland area in 2025 . There are also plans for a large water park and a theme hotel in Maya de Bij style.

Guided tour
Fans get the chance to say goodbye to Burg Falkenstein in a special way. On Saturday 5 November, the first day of the winter season, a select group of people can walk through the scenery and take photos and videos to their heart's content. Interested parties can register online for the special tour. The old sets are also being auctioned.

It is not the first time that the Plopsa Group has entered into a collaboration with the world-famous blue figures. For example, in the covered Flemish amusement park Plopsa Station Antwerp, you can find the interactive dark ride The Smurf Adventure . This year, an existing family roller coaster in Plopsa Coo was given a Smurf theme under the name The Smurfer . Occasionally De Smurfen are also present in Plopsaland De Panne for meet-and-greets .

Not overly surprising, it was in a rather sorry state and very dated when I rode it this summer. However, the loss of TICE NITS in any theme park attraction is always sad.

Not being content with the ride to Happiness type coaster coming to the park they're adding a coaster similar to Bellewardes Wakala for 2025. Liking the art work for it.

Finally, a family coaster! About time that they filled this huge gap in the park's ride line-up. Looks to be an exciting few years ahead for Holiday Park!

Finally visited the park today and what a lovely place it is. Expedition GeForce was as good as I hoped, like Goliath++ for me.

Glad I visited now as you feel it'll be a much changed park in 2 years time, the Smurfs dark ride that was supposed to be new for this year is delayed to 2025, the GeForce area is now a dead end as they're mid construction on some new for 2024 and 2025 attractions. Plus obviously the 2 new coasters they now plan on adding.

Also if they need a name for the tomorrow land coaster I've just thought of a great one.

2 Ride 2 Happiness

The layout of the new Gerstlauer family coaster coming to Holiday Park next year has been revealed, along with some digital concepts:

More details and concepts can be found on Looopings. It will be built between Sky Scream and the lake, and part of the layout will go over the lake. Very similar to Wakala as Bellewaerde, as expected.
