Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015

Really surprised it's closed tomorrow. Thought it would open for the weekend. Sorry if this is obvious but I have some questions:

1)if it is human error, will the smiler be open faster than if it's technical?
2)does anyone have any idea when x-sector /oblivion/enterprise/fried chicken will open?
3)when the park opens is it likely other coasters are open like nemesis?
4)is the park likely to be open by next Thursday?

I know that no one might know the answer to some of these but I'd like to know
 
Wow, just watching the interview now, if he'd been in the studio I'm sure she'd have had a slap. Or at least I would have given her one! Stupid cow! It's like watching the Bill O'Reilly show, complete disrespect to their guest and throwing out all sorts of untruths. Although IMO anything Murdoch is evil and should be avoided, but I may be alone in that.
 
The fact is she's not thinking with her rational mind, she's just thinking about sensationalising the story and getting ratings. She's not ignorant, she knows exactly what she's doing.

I'm surprised Nick didn't agree to do the interview with a better network. I don't think he had to give an interview at all at this stage to be honest.

She said in a tweet that it was 'her job to uncover the truth' when in reality all she should be doing is reporting the news not asking inappropriate questions and putting words into other people's mouths.
 
She blocked me on Twitter :( I must have hit a nerve at some point. I seem to remember her calling me a 'bully', seems ironic after her performance this afternoon.

I think a live interview at that time of day is bound to be dangerous, they will be looking for soundbites to use for the rest of the day so will do anything to get what they need. Varney stood up very well
 
I have just watched that appalling interview by the idiotic moron Kay Burley and my blood is boiling. Does she not have common sense? Does she not realise that making things safer does not mean they were not safe before? Things can always be improved. I take it she never flies seeing as they've been crashing for years and years, clearly planes are not safe enough.

Well done Nick Varney, he handled it very well but she well and truly tried to put words in his mouth.

1) Too difficult to separate human error and technical hardware. Technical hardware should be designed in such a way so as to minimise human error. In incidents I have investigated, it is sometimes easier to fix the technical issues than the human error issues.

2) Who knows - although once the cars are removed, there shouldn't be too much visible evidence of investigations going on with the Smiler, so see no reason why Oblivion can't be restarted just because of that.

3)On this one, I'm not so convinced other coasters might not be operating. Merlin don't seem to be operating any coasters with multiple cars at the moment, so I wouldn't be surprised if the same applies to AT when it reopens.

4) I reckon in all likelihood it will be open by next Thursday. Whether all coasters are operating is another matter.
 
Watched that interview and god...what an awful woman! Never thought I'd say this but, I kinda felt sorry for Nick Varney having to endure that interview.
 
Although they did get an unfortunate sound bite of him saying that the safety measures on The Smiler were 'not adequate' I think he stood up very well.

Rather than rising to the bait and starting an argument he stood firm, and kept with the measured and sensible response he was trying to get across.

It's amazing really... The company are doing everything in their power to eradicate all possibility of anything like this happening again in any of their parks and all the press can do is sensationalise it and assume that everything was inherently dangerous beforehand!

As an aside, it's interesting to see that all of the info we've had only seems to apply to UK parks. Anyone know if Heide, Garda or the foreign Lego parks are affected in any way?
 
It will not operate again this season, I'm sure.

In around 6 weeks' time we will find out what the Prohibition Notice actually covers, nevertheless as the ride is now under a PN and the affected trains impounded, it will be the subject of investigation for many months. Any subsequent legal action could take a year or two to get through the courts.

I'm watching the interview now. Nick (slightly unsurprisingly) looks like he's hardly slept in days, and as for Kay Burley? She's really irritating me. Putting words into Nick Varney's mouth, twisting what he's saying, constantly interrupting him (on a much, much worse level when compared to Jeremy Paxman), asking inappropriate and insensitive questions...I've got to give credit to Nick Varney for keeping a cool head during that. If I were in his shoes, I would've probably walked, and I bet Nick considered doing the same.
 
A perfect example of the way not to conduct an interview. Its a horrible thing from start to finish. She is bullying and just trying to twist everything.

If she had half a brain cell and understood how coasters worked then maybe she would understand his answers.
 
Agreed with everyone ashamed at the interview, but then again that's what the media do, swaying the argument inot the way they'll make them the most money.

But their decision to close SAW and Dragon fury was silly, I doubt it's happening on them, more reliable and less complicated rides.
 
SAW does have an awfully high number of trains though? Not sure exactly how many but I'm sure it's more than 5? Never been, probably wrong :D
