John Wardley New Book

The most important thing I learnt from visiting John’s website is that in the About section it states the BBC made a romantic drama series called Have Your Cake And Eat It, centred on a character based on him that was a roller coaster designer creating a ride called Dragon Khan. This is absolutely mind blowing!

Has anyone ever seen this series? It was in four parts and aired in 1997 and John acted as a story and script advisor for it.

He talks about it in his first autobiography (Creating My Nemesis).

Nope! Does look vaguely familiar from the trailer i found (nothing theme park related and not NWS but contains intimacy).

I have to admit that when I clicked on that trailer it really wasn’t quite how I was expecting it to be.

Mind you I’d love to see a BBC dramatisation of the 1994 coaster war in the style of Micro Men, the drama about the rivalry between Clive Sinclair and Chris Curry, the man behind the BBC Micro.

I have a copy of the Have Your Cake and Eat It book and will confirm there are chapters and scenes dedicated to John's- sorry, SAM's job, such as Dragon Khan's development which are honestly very interesting to read.

It's also a Very Adult™️ book with (hilariously written) sex scenes throughout. The character Sam does get tiring a couple of chapters in but after everything that happens, the ending is *chef's kiss* worth the read 🤣

So if it's based on John, are we to assume that Mr W was getting laid alot in the 90's?

Sam - "I designed Nemesis and Dragon Kahn you know. Geeks email me all the time about it."

Lady unbuttoning her 90's style blouse - "Oh, you had me at the word Nemesis you sexy beast of a man. C'mere!"

I seem to remember John saying that he asked the program creators to emphasise that the character was based on him in career only, and that he was merely a consultant to ensure accurate portrayal of the theme park design profession.

The character, other than that, is not based on John himself, and this was something he was keen to emphasise in his book!

Yeah, I bet he was! Not sure how he explained away the smell of perfume on his coat and the lipstick marks on his shirt collar though! Or the collection of young guys in their late 20's at the Nemesis closing event that had an uncanny resemblance to him.

Probably mentioned in the relevant thread but i noted he's down as a consultant for Project Horizon so that makes me very happy as there's not a single Wardley ride i don't love (excluding the handful i haven't been on but i trust they're great).
