Legoland Windsor

I have stuck more on the website, but here is the video from the new ride:

I am frankly amazed they have installed this with no planning permission. Either they have a loop hole on it being temporary/moveable or they are just chancing it for the season.

The theming on the Disk-O is atrocious.

This is Legoland - it should be much better than that.

The horses are quite fab tbh... And when have any of the Legoland flats been excessively themed since the Jet Skis?

Is that an excuse?

When Chessington theme Kobra so nicely and Toverland make theirs look amazing beyond all recognition, there is no reason Legoland couldn't have at least done SOMETHING to the structure.

Blackpool have more theming on their structure!

You mean Plopsa's right? That's because the company who own that park actually care...

Given that this seems to be a VERY last minute addition, and a Merlin one at that, it's ok enough... Chessie didn't exactly theme their one beyond adding some snake statues and bunting, this one has themed seating...

I'll be honest I really like the colour of the supports so I'm quite glad they are exposed. However the real sin is that the ride sits right on the edge of the parks service building so you get a lovely view of back of house and the staff smoking area.

I'll also echo what Benzin said above that this was a very last minute addition. Personally I'm grateful they got something and it beats diggers hands down.

Personally, I think Kobra is pretty well themed. Sure it's not Plopsaland but it's better than most.

I guess with it being last minute we can tolerate more mediocrity.

It's a very odd concept for a ride, why would horses be in a circle going round and ride?

As for it being a last minute addition, isn't it a carbon copy of the new one that has opened abroad? Which I think looks the same as this one. It does look a bit naff with all the supports on show, rather than blocked in like at Blackpool.

The park did rather well on the TEA figures, increasing more than the rest of the Merlin parks in the UK and adding 150,000 year on year.

Went back to Legoland today for the first time since a being a little 'un.

Firstly, I forgot how incredible the view is from the entrance of the park. It's not quite Alton Towers, but it's still something else. The rest of the entrance however, from the mass of ugly metal fencing to the awful, singular track repeated over and over again, and even the tacky use of comic sans on some of the building, is far from ideal.

I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the park on the whole looked. It seemed almost every member of roaming park staff made at least some form of attempt to pick up at least one piece of litter, which consequently impacted the presentation on a much larger scale.

I felt somewhat underwhelmed by the length of one of the latest additions in the form of Atlantis. It's a great concept and almost a great implementation of it, but for me it just didn't quite hit the ball out of the park.

I couldn't remember the rapids at all from my last visit, so naturally I gave them a go. From what it lacks in theming and the offride appearance, the sheer levels of fun offered on ride did a noble effort of making up for it.

Not too sure as to why there was a random Taylor Swift portrait offplaced and fenced off in Miniland, but that in itself was a nice nostalgic trip down memory lane.

The Dragon coaster far exceeded my expectations, even from what I remember. Even it's much smaller counterpart put on a pleasing display.

Heartlake City also exceeded my expectations, up until Mia's Riding Adventure. Sadly the ride didn't feel as forceful as its Pleasure Beach twin, and the ride area is a bit bland but it's fairly obvious there's still some tweaks yet to occur.

Overall, my biggest niggles of the day are delivered in the state of some of the models. There's a clear balance between what's new and old in Miniland due to the colour fading, but that's of course inevitable. Some of the models elsewhere around the park though showed a few signs of needing a touch of care on a tad more frequent basis, but I can appreciate if this isn't feasible. I was also disappointed with the lack of minifig parts in the build your own minifig section of the shop in The Beginning. Regardless, I was still able to create three quirky 'figs that now take occupancy within my residence.

Big thanks to Mark as well for the insightful cinema stuff. :)

Following the refusal of Ghost last year, the park have made some new plans to try and overcome the traffic issues which have seen queues of up to two hours on busy days after park closing (which judging Legoland is most days).

1/ there's plans to build a hotel extension (which will likely end up as a second hotel). This will feature three stories with a castle theme and be positioned on the site of Dino Safari with a 2017 opening.

Apparently the Park state the second hotel would decrease congestion as it would mean more guests would stay onsite and another thing I've heard is Windsor council want to increase accommodation in the area, which if true this could be quite a sweetener to the park.

2/ There's plans for an alternative way out of the Park, however I'm unsure how this will work yet.

3/ Ghost will still hopefully be happening with an opening of 2016 or 2017 opening (I though it would be 2016 but maybe they're spacing it due to WC16). The only major change is the height has been dropped by a metre.

4/ some more land has been bought nearby the park (formerly St Leonard's Farm). No plans yet on this but this could be used for either further overflow parking, more accommodation, secondary themepark activities or further maintenance areas.

Whilst it is good that they are planning an extension, it looks rather awful. I am not sure why they couldn't go with a simple extension. I assume they are trying to brand them as different hotels as per Chessington. It is likely we'll get more accommodation in the future, as the land is likely to be used for their eco village concept.

They are also going to do something to DUPLO Family Restaurant. I am guessing a proper extension and this may be related to the hotel extension if it won't have an additional restaurant or Bricks isn't being enlarged.

They have previously indicated they would like to an extra lane to the main road, some bypasses and traffic lights for peak traffic.

I am guessing that they have decided to put out the new application for the Haunted House with the hotel extension, as they are going to claim that the Haunted House won't be an addition to the park or increase capacity, as it will replace Dino Safari. A clever idea and with some more evidence on traffic and plans for improvements, may help them get around the recent issues.

I've just put out a few articles that are more in depth if anyone is interested.

With a park that is short on rides though it does seem wrong that they are getting rid of a ride (Dino Safari) to build the hotel extension, lets hope there are plans to add some more high capacity attractions back into LegoLand as it really cannot cope on busy days.

Legoland arn't short on rides, just high capacity rides. Removing Dino Safari and replacing it with this haunted house would no doubt help the situation as its cappacity is bound to be at least double. I've always thought they should keep the models from Dino and just ditch the ride. Turn it into a walk through, maybe next to Squid Surfer for example.

They are also going to do something to DUPLO Family Restaurant. I am guessing a proper extension and this may be related to the hotel extension if it won't have an additional restaurant or Bricks isn't being enlarged.
On the plans it shows Bricks is being expanded and there will be a new restaurant. Anyway how would Duplo's expansion be related to this, it's separated from the new hotel by 3 massive attractions (Atlantis, Coast & Driving).

Whilst the park do struggle with capacity quite badly, there are definitely signs that they are trying to tackle this issue, the problem mainly related to the fact that most of the original rides in the park were built when Lego wasn't a leading UK theme park which is now 2nd most visited in the UK.

1/ they have installed higher capacity rides since Atlantis, Vikings & Jolly Rocker.

2/ The dragon has had a capacity increase, it now has 3 trains (previously 2)

3/ There has been a slight increase in shows at the park, the fact there's two different ones on the harbour now is proof.

4/ Boating School has been given a third loading lane to increase capacity, driving school has also been given a slight increase too.

5/ Digger Challenge has been replaced with Mia's Riding School, a ride that can take at least three times the amount of people Digger could take

Whilst it'll be a shame to see Dino go (as it has some rather nice models in there), if this is the only way for the park to continue to expand, I guess it will have to do and anyway, the ride probably can't get more than 300 PPH anyway, ghost will without doubt be at least double that.

The new hotel extension looks horrible, of course it would look fine if it was located next to the castle, but having it at that end of the park will just look very odd and out of place. I would rather they themed it to something to fit in with the area of it.
