I wish some new Christmas songs would be composed just so that I don't have to keep hearing the same set of about 5 from pre-1980's.
 
If I hear 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' by Mariah Carey once more at work, I am going to scream.

There are.

Although unfortunately they're made by Coldplay and The Killers.

But on the plus side, they don't get noticed by charts/tv/radio so we're spared.
 
Really annoys me when people try to look/sound impressive by saying they 'don't do' Christmas. Fine, go to work and don't eat/drink ridiculous amounts. You're not proving any point that people care about
 
It really annoys me when people expect everyone to "do" Christmas. It's like expecting an athiest to "do" eid or passover.

I'm in my mid 20's, childless, and an atheist. So I'm in the 'I don't do xmas' camp.

To those around me it probably seems like I'm being miserable or attention seeking. I try not to mention it but I do get really frustrated with people assuming that I should give a toss about the holidays.

I get constant grief from colleagues for not handing out pointless bits of paper to people that I have no interest in knowing as anything other than casual acquaintances, or for not showing any interest in doing secret santa or wanting to go for a night out with people who I haven't seen outside of the office since the last sodding xmas meal.

I don’t have a tree. I give some presents (family only,) but I do resent the whole process of exchanging items of similar value that neither party really wanted in the first place.

I don't take any time off other than the bank holidays. Why would I want to use my annual leave in December, when everywhere is packed, the weathers crap and no one has any money? I'd rather take it in August and get wasted in the sunshine.

I don't have a tree. I hate traffic. I don't like tacky decorations. I hate xmas music. I don't like children. I hate the cold.

I just find the whole experience of the build up and the actual day genuinely depressing.
 
I am not into how Christmas is now.

Walking into shops with overly loud xmas songs on, Usually the same 5 crap song. Big Signs trying to tell you that 'if you don't buy X you will be a nobody in the xmas party world'. The usual stuff you buy disappearing and a xmas variant appearing in it place, I want Dry Roasted Peanuts, Not Dry Roasted Cashew & Peanuts. I don't want to pay an extra 3p to have xmas item to be printed on my loo roll, I don't care when I am (Censored for decency), Just stock my usual loo roll!!!
Don't remove Birthday wrapping paper, my wife does not want her birthday presents in christmas paper. people do have birthdays on christmas eve!

Then there is the adverts. Supper happy, not a care in the world, everything perfect, not one sniff of mental health problems, except the family look like they are on happy pills. The Only advert that come close to normal life is a hyperventilating Alien worried due to there being only 5 earth day left to christmas and he is a shoppaholic.

Just let me buy my presents in the usual shopping sounds, hear my wife and mother in law get stressed in the kitchen Christmas morning as i am shoving the mounting of packaging into a bin bag.
The vulture attack that is a hunger family at the Christmas Dinner table, ending in Brother in law trying to break the world record for the longest or loudest burp. The father in law stumbling to a soft chair half drunk, then trying to gas us out.
The bloated lounge on the sofa, watching the usual Christmas afternoon TV.

There is nothing worse than having a birthday in December. In 12 years together, I don't think I've once had a birthday present from Kelpie arrive on time, because all the couriers assume it must be a christmas gift and take their sweet time delivering it.
 
Well, I'm a childless atheist in my 30s and I do 'do' Christmas. So there.

So to all those people who are "miserable and proud" at this time of year: Good for you, but don't pointedly try and ruin it for the rest of us.

I don't begrudge people having fun at Eid, or Passover. For the same reasons, I also don't walk past churches on summer Saturdays and moan ostentatiously about not being involved in a wedding.

I like Christmas, even though I have many reasons not to, but Novas that was just about the funniest post I have read on the subject ;D and it contains genuine bona fide logic!

I want to add to your list, SUPERMARKETS! How people in the season of goodwill seemingly put this to one side once they get a trolley in their hand!

I was in a supermarket today, and within minutes of being in it heard a "lady" shout "One more person pulls a face and I will knock their head off" or words to such effect.

I heard/saw constant arguing, bickering, barging and goodness knows what else.

It reminded me of Black Friday scenes in America. Consumerism and capitalism gone utterly mad.

I can usually find someone to have a joke with and did again, taking time to speak to the staff and crack a joke about the madness to cheer them up a bit. These little things I try to do all the time, but particularly when they are under the cosh like today.

People need to take a step back, they are drawn into this almost vortex like cycle of emotions and predetermined ideals of what Christmas should be.

Don't get me wrong, I like "things", love "things" in fact!

However today at times was just disgusting quite frankly.
 
I'm with simon, I love Christmas. It's as commercial as you want to make it. For me it's about quality time spent with family and friends. I love choosing cards and gifts for people, knowing they will appreciate them. Shopping done online hassle free, muppet Christmas carol permanently in the DVD player and the pogues on the iPod! I too have December birthdays but just plan in advance. I do think it's now getting 'trendy' to say you don't do Christmas but remember - even the Grinch's heart grew two sizes at Christmas! ;)
 
My supermarket has replaced christmas songs with twee, slow, sub-John Lewis 'quality', female-vocal-and-lone-piano covers of Chistmas songs. Which are even worse.

Now that is irritating. And 'crooner' covers too. And 'Frosty the Snowman'.
